re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I don't think it's appropriate to be knocking the OP and the one or two other posters who believed ASAs were disappearing. The OP and the second poster both gave seemingly legitimate, knowledgeable sources and shared the information for discussion.

+1..........

I agree, I think we are all now better informed due to the post by the two other posters, Red Roo did confirm that changes are coming, and they now clearly know that they should have the AFF community included on the early release of information, if it was not for the original posters we cannot assume that this would have been offered...

We are all in a better position so a big thank you to the original poster and the second poster to confirm.... seems the devil in the detail is rumour but there is some change coming...

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

What I have found interesting, and I am sure Red Roo has also, is the passion that surrounds ASA within this community.

And I do have to wonder if those with early predictions in the 750K post competition were looking at this tread as a potential means of increasing their chance of winning ;).

Thanks Red Roo for clarifying. And I assume its not a case of rumour management per Yes Minister, where we are taught that a rumour should only be believed when it has been officially refuted

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Whilst I appreciate red roo commenting and confirming ASA are here to stay, the real question is will they be "enhanced"?

Enhancements aweigh!

That's a fair point, so long as they're not whittled away to the point that they may as well have removed them, I don't see too much of an issue with making more money for the business, as it is after all ;)

Will just have to wait and see :)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Perhaps the message to the trainers was lost in translation via the trainees (Chinese whispers?) by the time it gained the attention of the posters' .

If the website is changing, then perhaps they have misunderstood the scope of the change. For example, they may have moved where you do the search, and they may have been misinterpreted as it being removed. Who knows. Will have to wait and see what happens if they are changing the website, again.

thanks for the replies - the post was not meant to cause any upset simply what I heard from my friend at QF who is always very reliable. Anyway let's wait and see. last post on this forum. gets a bit too nasty.

[Repudiated by QF] QF removing Any Seat Awards (ASA) from 08 April

I find it unbelievable that a couple posters can cause so much rumpus on here, with incomplete knowledge. Thank goodness we have Red Roo here who ACTUALLY knows what he is talking about!

EH

I find it unbelievable that you just want to shoot the messenger. I never said "it's a fact". I never said I had the complete story. I passed on what I had been told. I very clearly stated that I had been told by QF staff. Red Roo isn't the only person that works for QF, and therefore isn't the only source of truth. If the call centre are telling you something that might be of interest, wouldn't you post it here too?

I don't remember anything being a "rumpus" - I think it has been a pretty interesting discussion and one that QF should note carefully if there is any intention to change ASAs in future.

[Repudiated by QF] QF removing Any Seat Awards (ASA) from 08 April

We are always looking at ways to improve the member experience. As recently as 2 weeks ago we hosted many of the AFF members at Rockpool where we got some great ideas. We can confirm that Any Seat Awards are here to stay and many members enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase any fare using points.
When there is any news we will do our best to make sure that AFF are among the first to know.

Glad to hear that ASAs are staying - you might want to follow up with all the customer facing staff as it seems some of them have got the wrong message.

Oh I did forget to mention this but I heard that from April everyone flying is going to be required to push two pedals up and down on the floor during flights, (including First Class passengers!). The purpose of this is twofold; 1 to prevent DVT and 2 to help keep the plane's batteries topped up. I'm thinking this will also include the inaugural flight?

EH

This is actually a good idea. Exercise would help relieve the stress I had last Friday when I saw a hi-viz in the ADL QP.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Thanks Red Roo for chiming in.

I don't think the official reply exactly allays the fears that were raised here. For one thing, the current points+pay, if used, makes a booking an ASA. So if "ASAs are here to stay", who is to say it's not the current points+pay that is meant by this.

In addition, when AFFers say "ASA" they almost always mean to say "ASA priced at a Classic Award level (i.e. with little additional co-pay compared to booking a Classic Award)". We all know of the ASAs at various higher levels of points (some more often than not are a subtle hint than a serious price). I'm not sure those at QF exactly understand this distinction.

I still think that Classic-priced ASAs will be around - maybe dressed differently but still here. Certainly, some of the pre-empted fire bombing on the thread was not quite warranted...

This is a discussion board after all, so raising possibilities can help prepare us for change if it happens, it can also be a litmus test for companies sounding off ideas before actually putting them in place. I would rather see threads with speculative content than just a rehash of PR material you see elsewhere.

I don't think anyone got too nasty. Certainly expressed their displeasure at unfavourable rumours. But the vast majority appreciate earning notice of potential changes. They also appreciate context for such news. So really ignore the unfavourable comments and for the next useful rumour add the context so we can judge how much salt we need to take.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I think the question for Red Roo is whether ASAs that booked in P/U/Z/X classes will stay.

Red Roo...????

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I don't know about your wacky idea for Platinum One but I have suggested to Qantas that vanilla Platinum is way too easy to attain and the meaning of Platinum status continues to be devalued.

Heh. Sounds like someone doesn't like the hi-viz brigade. :D

I think it was misdirected anger, that you could suggest the beloved ASA's were disappearing, rather than them attacking you ;)

OK - then no benefits on partner airlines. QF should leave Oneworld and die in splendid isolation!

I was simply replying with a crazy idea to another one. OneWorld makes good sense to Qantas I think!

You must have it wrong. Surely F pax would only have to push one pedal

this is unfair. Why blame the posters when they were given the information by QF? Why not blame QF instead.

If it had been the case that ASAs were to go, then we would be thankful for the heads-up to allow us to book in a timely manner.

Ultimately, we are protected by the terms and conditions of the FF program that require 6 (soon to be 3) month's notice of any chages (over which QF has material control).

While Red Roo's feedback provides some comfort, ultimately his assurances won't hold much weight unless you can prove you only continued to earn FF points on the basis of redeeming ASAs (based on his assurance). That's a pretty hard bar to pass. It seems odd that two QF reps had the opposite idea (obviously the trainer got something mixed up... but if it's not ASAs going... what is??)

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The source is someone I know (and very reliable) at QF reservations who just completed the training on it. There still will be X/Z/U/P inventory for Points+Pay but who knows at what level. Obviously not as cheap as the current ASA which use same inventory as classic awards.

why would it be more expensive?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Thanks for the clarification Red Roo ... now to see what this benefits (or disadvantages!) this "new" booking system brings...
