re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

.... If they offered Points plus pay at similar rates to ASA then it is no biggie, if they offered SC's on Classic awards, that would be even better!

That is a big "if"

And, I would agree to that thought.

Interesting though that they offered the chance to earn on points bookings, Virgin has now followed, and they're ending it.

Any chance of some conspiracy to lower Virgins bottom line? ;)

They were incredibly good value, so I wonder if anything that comes after will offer anything close... luckily I'm a member of a great community site that will no doubt test the new system fully within its first week to find the deals.

More curious now on what this new site is? All the changes recently have buggered what was a really good site.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

With the launch of the new website set for 08 April QF will no longer offer Any Seat Awards - it will simply being the points+pay option. The new site will offer commercial seats and award seats on the same search page. So I guess this is the end of cheap FASA/JASA which share the same revenue class as the classic awards. It was good while it lasted.

We are always looking at ways to improve the member experience. As recently as 2 weeks ago we hosted many of the AFF members at Rockpool where we got some great ideas. We can confirm that Any Seat Awards are here to stay and many members enjoy the flexibility of being able to purchase any fare using points.
When there is any news we will do our best to make sure that AFF are among the first to know.

Quite frankly, what a relief... and thanks to Red Roo for addressing these rumours.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

The following is redundant. Thanks redroo

The OP did say they are getting rid of ASAs completely. It seems (if this is true) that QFF have a real problem achieving balance in these things. (Eg removing platinum benefits instead of increasing qualification requirements. That seems to be one way thinking) It should be pretty obvious that 1000000 point redemptions are going to be pretty hard to sell. And that people are going to go for the best value available.

So if this rumour is true, it seems qantas is not happy with the return achieved and the answer is to cut things off entirely. No compromise to put a floor of ASA redemptions. No compromise to remove points earning but retain Status earning. Just cut it off completely

Why not sit down and think about what they are trying to achieve in giving points and status for ASAs. If they want to recognise people flying with QF using ASAs wouldn't awarding SC only be better. Remove the cost of earning points on awards. Plus extend it to classic awards on QF flights/metal.

I also wonder how this would compete with VA who now having earning on ASAs.

Appreciate the response, Red Roo, but I too have been told by Qantas Reservations that Any Seat Awards will be going. They said they have had training that covered this.

Thanks Red Roo, now we can all move on to the next crisis!

What kind of non-sense I have heard before from them which all never became true  In all seriousness, I am always surprised how little many of them know given they are actually working for Qantas. There's always exceptions but they are rather rare in my experience.

Thanks Red Roo. Am glad its staying. Certainly a bad move if ASA was to go.

I find it unbelievable that a couple posters can cause so much rumpus on here, with incomplete knowledge. Thank goodness we have Red Roo here who ACTUALLY knows what he is talking about!

Whilst I appreciate red roo commenting and confirming ASA are here to stay, the real question is will they be "enhanced"?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Oh I did forget to mention this but I heard that from April everyone flying is going to be required to push two pedals up and down on the floor during flights, (including First Class passengers!). The purpose of this is twofold; 1 to prevent DVT and 2 to help keep the plane's batteries topped up. I'm thinking this will also include the inaugural flight?

Maybe there is a new reservation system coming in that operators will need to use.

Perhaps the message to the trainers was lost in translation via the trainees (Chinese whispers?) by the time it gained the attention of the posters' .

I do believe where "there is smoke there is fire", I am just wondering that a wrong signal may have been communicated.

I don't think it's appropriate to be knocking the OP and the one or two other posters who believed ASAs were disappearing. The OP and the second poster both gave seemingly legitimate, knowledgeable sources and shared the information for discussion.

We are always looking at ways to improve the member experience.

There is one major improvement that should be made to the QFF site as we know the OP was not correct and ASA's are staying, please do not show on the QFF pages there are flights like J available when clearly the are not (yes those pop up boxes annoy us all).
