Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Thinking the same to have choice who to use them with, pity I dumped my Amex Plat Direct, was going to apply hoping to get the free 80K points currently on offer with a new Amex Plat. but points only available if not had one with them in the past mmm.

Really? I took up the offer late last year and I was able to claim the 80k points as I hadn't been with AMEX for 12 months.

One poster said he was told he would get them, but later he got card was denied, probably the 12 month rule.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to call them then.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

IMHO start accruing points in the reward program of the Credit Card Company instead of direct sweep to QFF. I have ditched my ANZ Qantas linked card, my Amex Qantas Ultimate and am looking at closing my Woolworths EDR card. I put over 875,000 points through my cards last 12 months and I have now taken out a Citibank Card and a straight Amex card with Amex Rewards.

Who is going to lose...? not me.. I will pick and choose how I now spend the points through thei Credit Card companies' more varied choice of airlines once I burn the 1.2 million points I still have in QFF

Good whilst it lasted but nothing in life stays the same so move on and let them weep in 18 months to 2 years. It is not only the seats but the loss of point sales that will impact on them. Pity really because I still think they are one of the best airlines around.

It'd probably hurt qantas more to not redeem the points but to keep them active via occassional Woolies purchases. They make money on redemptions and hold a liability on points balances.

But if they go broke then you're the one with a liability.

But if they go broke then you're the one with a liability.

Which doesn't really matter if one has decided to not use the points and just make them carry the liability on their books.

And yes I understand that my suggestion involves burning significant value in points. It's just an extreme idea that I wouldn't expect anyone to do.

ahhhh the wonders of the Qantas web booking engine...

Some sections are temporarily unavailable and will be restored soon. Please continue to book and manage flights with confidence

Can only hope its the section containing the marginal ASA's

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

And Kevin Rudd was never, never, never "read my lips" coming back either....BUT !!!!!!!

And John Howard was Lazarus with a triple bypass. Why do you need to bring politics into this thread?

Some of us cant help it.:oops:
Of course if Howard was Lazarus with a triple bypass Rudd is Lazarus with a heart transplant.:p;)
He hopes people see it that way though.:)

And back OT,I am finding it difficult to see many Classic awards to Asia which is where we would like to go.They are there but rarely at a time we want.
And the new website is making it harder as well.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I fly much more on VA than I do on QF.

The one time recently that I needed a VA reward seat, it was easy to find and book.

My perception from the discussion on AFF is that while a generalisation, many members who fly extensively on both believe that more often than not, it is harder to find a reward seat on QF for the desired route at a suitable time than is the case on VA. Is this a common view?

Yesterday I booked a ‘marginal ASA’ via the phone booking system – with success :)

It did however get me thinking, if Qantas has removed the online booking process for these ASAs because it wasn’t ‘compatible’ with the new online booking engine why not just give us access to the old booking engine online? Same way the voucher redemption engine uses the old booking process! I guess vouchers = $$$, and ‘marginal ASAs’ = happy frequent flyers – both I would have thought were a good thing for Qantas.

Separately has the points cost of a non-direct Classic award gone up recently?? I sware a J classic CBA-SYD-HBA was 16k points a few months back and now they seem to be 24k! Which is a 50% increase in their cost, quite the increase Qantas!!!!! I notice that direct flights don’t seem to have changed. Bit unfair on people in cities like CBA, HBA, ADL etc – probably not such a problem for SYD, MEL, BNE residents! :(

You're a master of understatement. Awards to anywhere, and instead of harder, try impossible if you want multi-city.

Just received an e-mail from Qantas

We are excited to announce that we’ve changed the way you search for fares at qantas.com. It’s now simpler to use your Qantas Points when searching for Qantas & Partner Classic Awards, Qantas & Partner Any Seat Awards or looking to book a cash fare.

Any Seat Awards
For added flexibility you might like to choose an Any Seat Award˜, which allows you to:
Book any available seat on a flight with a QF or JQ flight number
Combine your Qantas or Jetstar flight with a range of flights on other selected airlines
Earn Qantas Points & Status credits
Request a Flight Award Upgrade using points on eligible Any Seat Awards on Qantas domestic and international routes
Use your points for taxes, fees and carrier charges
Use a mixture of cash and points to your liking with Points Plus Pay.≠ You can use Points Plus Pay on all Any Seat Award flights. Minimum points levels apply

Just had a look too, and you click "Use Points" in the top right hand corner.

Hi Blueythecat, I booked 2 of the CBR-SYD-HBA JASA trips on the eve of the booking engine change as insurance and they were indeed 16k points + $150.

I'm not sure if these multi-city MASA's have disappeared now or at least are a lot more expensive. I know it has been discussed in this thread but the thread is so long it is hard to remember what is speculation and what is fact.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Called to have a couple of Y seats released as a plat member for SYD-MEL trip, but couldn't get the time I wanted (busy weekend). There was 2 x Classic award J(U) seats on an appropriate flight so that was my backup, 16k points + $35 PP as classic award. Asked premium line about turning that into a ASA and it confused her.. i had to explain it, she asked supervisor still didn't get it right, in the end we got there because she was being very helpful and nice... but all new to her she said... In the end I just booked the classic award seats as I don't need SC for this year so the extra $65 for 40SC wasn't worth it (normally I would take them for that price but just don't need them atm).

I'm glad it wasn't just in my mind. I've had a bit of a look through this thread and I couldn't find it mentioned - there are a lot of pages though. I might have to contact Qantas and ask what is going on.
