Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Hi AFFers

To those who have good memory of what had been posted earlier.

Could you point me to the post(s) in this thread somewhere by Red Roo or some official QF emails stating that the online booking fee is waived for MASA ?

Wading through this "viral" thread is a mini marathon !

Just got my "Smart, simple & fast" email. Gave them feedback that it was rubbish!

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

As Red Roo, I’ve been involved with both internal and external communications, including the briefing to AFF mods and selected media yesterday.

The purpose of the Mod and Media briefing was to share the facts with those who are monitoring and moderating this forum and walk them through the changes. We will be sending emails progressively to our Qantas Frequent Flyer members who are likely to have an interest in these changes over the next week.

Due to volumes on this thread, I cannot comment or respond to every post, however please be assured that I have been noting your feedback and comments, particularly as the changes are now live.

I’ll leave the discussion with the members of this forum, and please keep it going. However I would like to clarify a few points:
· ASA’s that are unable to be booked online can be booked by calling 1300 366 587 (+61 2 8222 2430 from outside Australia) between the hours of 0900 and 1700 AEST on Mondays to Fridays. The phone assisted booking fee will be waived for these bookings.
· Testing has been conducted across most major search engines including, Google Chrome. There are no known system issues with the updated qantas.com site at this time.
· Some of you may have already received an email advising of the changes.
· There is no change to the pricing or calculations other than availability – much like commercial bookings.

Here it is. Yep post #975 was correct. Emphasis is mine obviously lol.

Called to have a couple of Y seats released as a plat member for SYD-MEL trip, but couldn't get the time I wanted (busy weekend).

This is new. Previously Platinums could only request a J award seat domestically. Economy was only possible internationally.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Separately has the points cost of a non-direct Classic award gone up recently?? I sware a J classic CBA-SYD-HBA was 16k points a few months back and now they seem to be 24k! Which is a 50% increase in their cost, quite the increase Qantas!!!!! I notice that direct flights don’t seem to have changed. Bit unfair on people in cities like CBA, HBA, ADL etc – probably not such a problem for SYD, MEL, BNE residents! :(

Think I've figured it out. CBR-HBA (via MEL) is now calculated as a zone 2 fare (it is 675 miles) hence the increase in the points cost. Previously, I guess Qantas just took the start and end cities of the trip, CBR & HBA in this case, which put it in zone 1 (528 miles). Sucks, but I guess I can't complain too much.

And John Howard was Lazarus with a triple bypass. Why do you need to bring politics into this thread?

Simply because nothing is impossible. it was not a political comment but a current topical one, simple as that

Thanks Danny09 and Nizar

I knew it was somewhere here.

Pending MASA demise, I would do a screenshot of that post before my next booking in Aug (have enough SCs for WP until early July 2015).

There are a few here who has been whacked with the Assistance Booking Fee so I am not taking QF's training seriously - yet.

Ahhh I didn't know/hadn't tried before but just asked, she put the request in and said someone will call me Monday to let me know if it comes through or not... anyway we cancelled that in the end as I wanted an earlier flight than the one she put the request in on, hence booking J.

The fee waiver is also explicitly stated in the email from qantas. I'd rely on that email over a screen shot of a post on a forum.

I don't have the fee waiver stated on either of the three emails our family received about the new website.

Nor has mine.

Only credible sources I am aware of are a verbal statement made by QF staff during the briefing for AFF and other media and Red Roo's post #975.

What do they mean by 'releasing seats'?

Ditto. And if you are a regular punter, without this tid-bit from Red Roo, and you are charged the booking fee, then tough luck. You are out of pocket, Qantas gets additional revenue and no-one ever knows otherwise.

A big plus for being on this forum, for sure, but a pretty undesirable business practice otherwise. How would members here feel if they had been paying fees for doing certain things with Qantas, only to find out that those browsing the " .... ..... " web site knew that that fee didn't have to be paid?

What do they mean by 'releasing seats'?

As a WP, you can ring and request classic award seats be made available (or "released") if the amount you require is unavailable.
This is a request only and subject to availability (ie not guaranteed).

It doesn't explicitly say this on the website though, the closest implication is this:

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Platinum Benefits - Platinum
[h=3]Preferential access to selected Qantas Classic Award seats[/h]Qantas provides preferential access, when available, to selected Qantas Classic Award seats to Silver, Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyers. On selected flights, preferential access for Gold and Platinum members may be above the access available to Silver and Bronze members+.

+ Qantas & Partner Classic Award seat availability is limited and some flights may not have any Classic Award seats available.

Some details are available here:

its the same for a lot of things... if you don't ask or don't know then you don't get.

people for example who spend hundreds of dollars in extended warranties for appliances or computers... complete waste of money given ACCC protection extends your warranty well beyond the supposed 'one year' the manufacturers give you. or people who don't know they can get a one-off speeding fine converted to a caution (and not have to pay), or people that don't ring their bank and ask for a better interest rate.

all these things are possible and all people need to do is ask!

you would think the very first question anyone would ask would be for a fee waiver if you couldn't complete ANY transaction on line via the qf website. and you'd also think anyone would escalate that if they didn't get the answer they wanted. (or alternatively be happy to throw away $60 per passenger.)

My bad. Not on my email. But I'm sure I've read it somewhere in official QF stuff. Only because I recall thinking the red roo statement was simply confirmation of what I had read already. Can't find it, however.

I thought exactly the same as you and was surprised when I went back through the fine print and couldn't find any reference to a fee waiver.
FWIW the two bookings I made via the dedicated number did not attract a booking fee :)

I just re-read the two emails sent from Qantas.

No fee waiver was mentioned.

EDIT: posted before seeing Medhead's mea culpa

I don't know about mea culpa. I'm still sure I read it. ;) Just can't back up my memory. :o
