As SYD said below, I’d have thought MAD would be a better fit for QF, feeding into IB’s network. At present the only long haul IB offers east is to Shanghai and Tokyo.

Edit. I’m not sure what their masters at BA would think of that though.
Actually, the calcs suggest that MAD is further than LHR and HEL is significantly closer from PER (9078mi v 8131mi).

For two stop trips, HEL is a hell of a lot easy to transit tha LHR!
 
I think Paris will be way in front of Berlin, especially since the collapse of Airberlin and the ability to code share from a hub
The advantage here is trains are for free when you fly in to any city in Germany. Also the hub experience is way over emphasized. I actually might prefer to take a low cost flight to Dublin. Ticketing shuts down 1.5 hours before the flight is due to take off. So i missed the connection entirely. Shaking my head here. They lost my business because I also had BA booked in business for the return flight to Berlin. ( last minute booking via concierge AMEX) it was easy to cancel the ticket.
