Good point, although having a land border is not a requirement for being a member. E.g. Iceland or Greece do not have a border with other members.

That is true.

Of course if UK were member of Schengen, leaving EU doesn't necessarily mean they would leave Schengen. However, they are not, and given they are leaving EU, I can't see them changing their mind on Schengen and wanting to join now.
 
Notwithstanding that Brexit does not have immediate effect, I'm not sure if connections on BA to LHR and onto QF services (and vv.) would be inadvertently affected, which may or may not influence QF to make changes to its European network.

I think immigration rules are almost irrelevant to QF's European network. It has more to do with where the people up the front of the plane go. If there is a significant shift of business, and more importantly, banking activity from London to, say, Frankfurt then I guess maybe FRA could be back on the table.

I would agree to this. If there is enough demand, and QF can make a good business case for it, they will probably go there, wherever it is.
 
I'm really unsure what this Brexit will change about the assessment around whether to move from LHR to BER. Avoiding EU261 by maintaining LHR sounds like a somewhat superficial but otherwise interesting reason to maintain the status quo. I'm not sure if there are other major EU agreements which can largely affect the choice of base.

I'm pretty sure I didn't make any statement about the strength of the reasons. They were about the only reasons that I could think off. Up to others to decide how compelling they are as reasons to pick a european base.

Correct - UK is not a Schengen member. ..............n" at customs would be eliminated, and all travellers from the EU would be subject to customs checks and duties in the same manner as all third nation arrivals. What that means on a more operational sense is less clear; to assert "not much would change" is not unreasonable.

We are veering off topic, but that would in theory be correct.

On the flip side, you could now recover duty tax when travelling between the EU and the UK. I'm not entirely sure how funny that could get, provided you don't get caught up in a customs audit on possibly exceeding your duty free concessions.

Wow the photo attached to the article (at least I can see) with the 4 guys dressed in sunnies is seriously naff (for want of a better word).

I dont know there's any startling revelations in that article.

I think Paris will be way in front of Berlin, especially since the collapse of Airberlin and the ability to code share from a hub
 
With Airberlin gone and the new BER Airport *still* not close to opening, I think the opportunity for Qantas to fly to Berlin has come and gone.

If Qantas ever re-starts flights to Germany, they will almost certainly be PER-FRA on the 789.
 
Not to mention that TXL is almost as quaint as AVV

I was pondering that earlier today noting that neither CDG nor BER will offer OW hub connections. JL does HEL, but that gives them one stop into Europe.

Wouldn’t MAD be closer for QF?

BCN would be great but transferring to VY would be a let down....
 
Qantas flight sed to have a huge FRA freight business, it was almost that the old QF5/QF6 haf PAX as an afterthought.
 
Given the new partnership with AF, one would expect Qantas would offer a range of Air France codeshares for onward connections from CDG.

As SYD said below, I’d have thought MAD would be a better fit for QF, feeding into IB’s network. At present the only long haul IB offers east is to Shanghai and Tokyo.

Edit. I’m not sure what their masters at BA would think of that though.
