Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

In all this panic buying nonsense, I've noticed that the baby formula is still well stocked and not being purchased in such great numbers as in the past!
Not in my area; the one we get is usually easy to come by but even that is scarce now.

Thank goodness we got a Hello Fresh delivery yesterday, dont need to hunt for food this week.

So what on earth happened between mid January and now? Back then it was everyone out helping the bushfire victims, banding around as a community, now it seems, every person for themself and the community can go get 9*(*$#$ed. Truly proves that as a species, when threatened no amount of intelligence can override our base animal instinct.

My mother was observing when anything comes out that's in limited supply, the elderly have no hope in hell against the young, aggressive hoarders. Truly pathetic.

We have the choice of 3 Woolies in our area, this morning we went to our usual one we shop at. It was crazy, I have never seen so many people in there - even at Xmas !! I said this to the check out guy, and he said you should be on this side - it has been super busy all this week.

Weirdly I ordered 3 Marley Spoon orders last week. They are due to arrive shortly. I am blanching broccoli to freeze as there was none in the freezer nor the store, blanching the carrots, bought a large pumpkin that will keep, and put bread into smaller packets. Have mince and thighs in the freezer. I'm not digging into these just yet until it gets more human to human here in SA.

Just went to our local woollies and buzzing like crazy at 3pm in the afternoon on a week day.

No paper of any kind in store (pooh tickets, tissues, kitchen towel etc).

Several meat cabinets empty. No steak, lamb or pork - chops/whole meat. There were many packets mince of various kinds and sausages.

There was a queue at the meat department waiting for something? When I offered to move aside from the meat cabinet so a disabled person could approach closer where the remaining mince etc was, he said "no i'm waiting, the staff said to wait here 15 minutes". Not sure what he had been promised?

Starting to remind me a bit of the pictures others have shown me of communist hungary/romania/russia/vietnam etc.

Edit: Oh and Chemist Warehouse is rationing several items (example: DuroTuss), only one packet per customer.

Just ticked off our Coles delivery and all I can say is I hope the person that got our Drovers Porterhouse steaks, kalamata pitted olives and Denada icecream that we paid for enjoys the freebies

Thankfully I live in a great community. We have set up a text group and are looking out for the elderly and infirm on our street.

I honestly believe that we are seeing the worst minority on social media and mainstream media. Why? Because it pulls the ratings and the clicks.

I've experienced actually really good things first hand but boy turn on the TV / SH*etBook then you get hit with the gross bogans.

Whilst in Woollies this morning we passed the meat section.two employees each with a large trolley were loading mince onto the shelves-they were about half way through and 2.5 shelves of mince.less than 5 minutes later we went past again.nearly finished restocking but now only 1.5 shelves stocked. And this was the cheapest mince.

Just back from IGA, still have mince made in store. Manager told me they have made and sold 450kg of mince....today! Thats almost half a tonne or just over 4 of me worth. And it's only 3.40pm here😳

Expect Coles to get worse, they announced no more home deliveries.

In about 2 weeks I will take the morning off mid week and battle the masses for fruit & veggies... because the local fruit and veggie places we had closed down because WOW & Coles put them out of business

Im glad hubby fasts Mon & Tues, two less meals I have to make per week.

An acquaintance works in a medical environment. They have had masks, gloves, sanitiser and toilet paper on back order for more than a month, running very low on supplies and cannot get replenishments. Unsure if they may have to shut down if something doesn't change soon. Heard third hand some dentists unsure how much longer they can continue to practice unless the supply chain starts flowing again.

The run on mince started yesterday.
I went to lunch on Sunday with enough mince on show that would last 2-3 hours of normal Sunday trade. Returned from lunch 30 mins later, it was empty. Refilled the mince, then went to refill the rest of the meat.
2 trolleys later and it was nearly all gone again.
Same with the chicken. No load of chicken to my store on monday. Sunday load is meant to last until Tuesday. I normally leave on Sunday with 2-3 trolleys left for Monday. There was less then 1.

Updated info on the Woolies trade hour changes.
Stores will open at 7am and allow only seniors and disabled prior to 8. Customers will need to show senior, disability cards, ID etc to enter. Stores are to take a "common sense" approach to this re disabled customers without a disability card and carers.
This will apply from tomorrow (Tues 17th) until Friday (20th). Will decide on Friday if it will be extended.
Stores nationally will close at 8pm from Wed 18th. Normal closing times apply tomorrow.
Stores that normally close prior to 8pm will still close at that earlier time, unless that store is individually told otherwise.
On weekends, stores will be open 7am-8pm. (unless I assume the senior/disabled hour is extended). QLD weekend hours may be different and customers are directed to woolworths website to check
States where these hours are not normally allowed have granted temporary exemptions.
Opening hour changes will apply until further notice.
Sydney Town Hall, Melbourne QV and Brisbane Airport stores are excluded from the changed hours.

Ha ha. I can't believe this place. I've posted elsewhere that I'm returning from overseas today and the friends who are garaging my car volunteered to get groceries for me & have in car when I drive away.

So I innocently sent a shopping list, with a ' :) ' against the toilet rolls (but honestly thinking that by now, the panic buying would have stopped).

The list included some mince. "Oh no!" My friend said when I phoned today. "Mince is the new loo paper". No dry rice, no canned tomatoes.

Pretty poor effort, Australia.

This from an author recently chastising others for criticising…. get a grip sunshine...

Just think…. nobody reading this has ever seen the likes of what is happening in the world.

We have o idea of how it will all spin out, we are just hoping…...

Maybe not, but the solidarity and generosity of the bushfires has descended into anarchy in the covid 19 supermarket aisles.
