Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

I've posted the solution in the humour thread ;)

Perhaps it would be a good idea for the chief medical officer to explain to the general population the difference between coronavirus👃 and noravirus 💩

Why aren't people hoarding aloe vera tissues and Vicks vapour rub et al

A friend was lamenting last night he lives in a small 1br apartment and went to buy his usual 6 roll pack but all that was left was a 36 roll pack. Spent ages trying to work out where to store it and concerned he has contributed to "hoarding".😅

Right up in the back of the car boot is where my daughter used to store them when I had to try to get my spend up for the bonus spend offer. ;)

Hmmm

Woollies sent me an email advertising half price on Kleenex Aloe Vera tissues this week ( $2.60 $1.30 ).

As these are the preferred ones in our household, and they haven't been on special for quite a quite so we are down to a couple boxes, I thought I would save myself some money.

Popped down to the nearest store and no tissues, no loo rolls, no kitchen towel. Spoke to a staff member who said all shelves were full at opening.

They will fill the shelves again over night. But if I want some, I need to be waiting at the door when they open tomorrow 🤬 🤬 🤬

Sourced 15ltrs of hospital grade hand sanitizer (1.2lt bottles) via an equine dentist in Qld so if youre absolutely desperate for some this is another option.

This is for my office so it'll be used/Im not prepping at home.

As long as these idiots don't start a run on Dan Murphy's....
Well, nothing to do with Coronavirus nor Dans but I have done a few forays into the local bottlo to stock up on the now sold-out Rockfords Alicante over the past few weeks. And I found out today that my SIL has always been a toilet roll hoarder and has a very large stash, always. <shakes me head in wonder>

Car boot worked for me but have only enough space in our tiny apartment for one spare 8 roll pack anyway.

So, if staying in hotels, instead of flogging the shampoos and soaps, will people now just flog the loo paper?

I saw posts on here that to save money & vandalism, councils stopped providing soap in public toilets.

I'm guessing from now on the zip lock bag I carry with me in Asia & Europe with loo paper will need to go with me on domestic trips if people start raiding the paper here.

They've gone for the tissues when the toilet paper ran out.

Co worker suppose to go to Malta for a family weddings.... hes been told to bring supplies as stores sold out

Just came back from Coles.... everything seemed normal and in plentiful supply.... except flour!!! The entire flour section of the cooking aisle was empty!!!

I am so confused as to what these toilet paper and flour hoarding people think they are going to do in the apocalypse? Seems to me their plan requires sewerage and electricity supply to remain uninterrupted... and as we all know from the walking dead, those things break down real fast!

Its certainly a pack mentality. I was walking past the empty toilet paper aisle with 3 packs left and had an unconscious urge to grab them all even though I dont need them.
I reassured myself it would be refilled tomorrow and walked on.

Well Mr LL was in Coles Broadway (Sydney) and there was plenty of loo paper (and pasta) so I WhatsApp'ed a couple of my walkie/talkie groups to see if he should stock up for those complaining that Woolies and Coles on the north shore had no supplies (on several visits over the past few days) - so he stocked up for them.

Another friend said that also on the north shore the small convenience stores had loo paper - apparently they buy it from the supermarkets then re-sell at double the price. This of course could be an urban myth - no doubt more to follow.

This would seem to be true - i regualry see guy from the convenience store near the station at the local coles buying cartons of softdrink cans and things for sale in his store. As a business owner you'd think theyd have a campbells or costco membership of somethign to get stuff wholesale rather than retail.

Well as someone who a decade or two ago who used to run a string of drink vending machines I can tell you Coke & Cadbury products on special at supermarkets were significantly cheaper than buying from the wholesaler or Coke directly.

The buying power and loss leaders from the supermarkets is astounding. The above are definitely not the only product lines that a small trader cannot afford to buy from the "wholesaler" and stay in business.

At my local Liquorland today I noticed this guy loading umpteen cartons of beer into the boot of his car.

Not sure if it was for a party or just panic buying.

So this panic buying of condoms. Maybe urban legend but someone in the family told me it was because gloves were in short supply and the condoms were to protect fingers! 🤪😂
