Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

i'm flying out on the 31st for a 6 week trip. Not sure if I should get the flu shot or not because doesn't it make people a little sick after the shot?

Advice tends to be:
The most common side effects from flu shots are soreness, redness, tenderness or swelling where the shot was given. Low-grade fever, headache and muscle aches also may occur. If these reactions occur, they usually begin soon after the shot and last 1-2 days.

Note these only may occur in some individuals. In my case our family of 5 have been having the shots for many years and have never experienced anything more than a red spot.

Husband and I and my brother were perfectly fine although a slightly tender lump where the shot went. My SIL was unwell. But then she works in casualty and she's often unwell from all the bugs.

An Australian Doctor in Sydney has been confirmed as catching Covid 19 from a patient he was treating who flew in from Iran last week.

Or at least that is what CH7 just reported.
Yes, that's the same one I referred to earlier and apparently now it's tested positive.

I dont usually get the flu shots so i wont know the reaction. I think I'll make 22nd march my cut off date. Fingers cross it'll be available by then.

After travelling up to Thailand over the weekend, I've been cautious on the surroundings/people/areas, etc., and my own wellbeing. But suddenly started to sweat profusily, pespiration dripping off me and a very sore throat..... could it be????? But then i realised I'm back on local Thai factory food for lunch and have to stop eating those red things!!!!! Wow they overdone the chilli today, and this might knock the ol' virus off. You just have to love issan food, but better with beer!

I'm betting every woman who experiences hot flushes is going to be having a rough time!

Work introduced free flu shots 4 years ago and within about 25 minutes of having the shot I had a red lump the size of a 20c piece and a further 2 hours later I came down with the sweats and every muscle and joint was aching. Spent the next 2 days in bed and have since been too scared to get another flu shot.

Hate to think what the real (live virus) flu would have done to you. 😳

Yeah, who knows. Maybe just a bad reaction or something from the shot. I had pneumonia about 6 years ago but have never had the flu as such
I hope that your doctor has advised you on pneumonia shots. If not, I would look into it this year, especially.

Interesting observation today I took a vline bus and two vline trains. Quite a few people coughing openly. I Singapore don’t hear coughing on the MRT at all now. A risk of public lynching I guess if you did cough!

How in modern Australia does this happen? Surely the infection control procedures would have been so tight?

You do note know what symptoms she was presenting with. Accidents happen. Mistakes happen. Which one? I am sure they will be reviewing it.

Hospitals are not yet meeting most patients in full infectious control clothing, and nor would I expect they will. But if Covid19 becomes more common here things will step up.

Just saw this on the news.

• Government-funded flu vaccines will become available to providers from mid-April, pre-orders will open on March 16;

Now thats government-funded.. can i go through another avenue to get it earlier?

Yes as mentioned earlier at least Chemist Warehouse has it from 30 March (dates for stores vary) and Priceline from 1 April.

Latest Thai update; We are about three hours upcountry from BKK (and the nearest beach!) and they lined up all the workers in the yard, about 100 of them and took their temperatures, all passed. It was funny how they all lined up like a scene from the opening shots of "Hogan's Hero's"! Management got tested in the office at our seats.
We showed the nurses our pyrometer we use on the furnaces and we were all reading 27C! (the wonders of emissivity values)
