Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

My rating is not based on her brand of politics, it is on her manner, bearing and genuineness. Indeed her actual humanity.
Havent taken much notice of the lady TBH, but many of my kiwi friends actually reckon she's all talk and no action behind the scenes, hasnt delivered anything and represents all that's wrong with personality driven politics in NZ at the moment ...but I wouldnt know 🖖

This article gives some interesting data point on the persistence of similar coronaviridae on various surfaces (see table I). Persistence of coronaviruses on inanimate surfaces and their inactivation with biocidal agents

Quite striking in the case of MERS the difference between 20 and 30 Celsius. This could help explain why even though it is likely Indonesia has some cases of Covid19, indirect transmission via inanimate surfaces may be minimal in tropical climate.

Left MEL on Saturday, QF37, J was 3/4 full, Y was 40%. Downtown SIN was a bit quiet but you really didn't notice too much. Very few masks were worn but streets seem to be empty by 12am.
At the SIN Botanical gardens next morning a lot of people were out and about, a bit like normal. But the airport at 11am was dead. Scanning was fairly basic (wonder if people have difference emissivity values!!!). TG up to BKK on the 777 there were around 92 pax. Funny thing getting the boarding pass the woman asked if i was OK with an aisle seat!!!!!!

BKK was different, fastest i have even been through there, no lines no people. Traffic downtown was light at best and we could actually take the sideroads down to Sukhumvit Road. It was incredible to see no one around with very few people walking around. The atmosphere was sort of one of "quiet expectation", with very little talk or eye contact. Public transport was the same, could even get on with room to space on the BTS, MTR and ARL. The quietness of everyone was surprising. Out in the country now and seems to be more life here.

I fly out in 4 weeks time for 5 week holiday. I don't wish to leave the country without my annual flu shot.

From the information I have been able to gather so far
  • the general population vaccine (4x) is available on 30Mar for $14.95 and you can book in now to guarantee a shot.
  • there will also be a "seniors" version (3x) available for free. But I've contacted a number of doctor's surgeries and checked various government websites and none of them make me any wiser on when the 3x will actually be made available. (one answer was maybe mid April not sure, the others "no idea")
I fully realise qualified doctors on here cannot provide specific medical advise.

However, would it be possible for someone (qualified to do so) to provide a summary of the pro's and cons of the two different Flu vaccines being supplied for the 2020 annual flu season in AU with respect to seniors.

The Guardian reporting President Widodo says two citizens have tested positive, a mother and adult daughter from Depok near Jakarta

Indonesia reports first cases of Covid-19
Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Monday two Indonesians had tested positive for coronavirus, marking the first confirmed cases in the world’s fourth most populous country.
The two had been hospitalised, Widodo told reporters at the presidential palace in Jakarta. He did not specify where the patients were being treated.

Thank-you. That page has been updated since mid last week and is a lot clearer. Also says mid-April :( which is a bit too late for me

I havent checked in a couple of days but our local pharmac_ were expecting stock later this week. I'd try asking at the local chemist and not the big chemist sites.

Thanks - do you know which "variety" they will be stocking?

I am booked in on 31 March. Chemist Warehouse (varies by store) are bookabke from 30 March.

Yes. Thanks, that's where I got the 30Mar date from.

When I tried to book a banner comes up saying you are over 65 check with your GP for the free seniors jab.

What I'm trying to decide is take the first available or hang out for the "ideal" one and miss out  before I leave.

Im not sure, I didn't think to ask but presume all of the paid for ones.

And this is not good - first human to human transmission in Australia. No, wait, that was the headline. He currently just has symptoms. Bloody media.

i'm flying out on the 31st for a 6 week trip. Not sure if I should get the flu shot or not because doesn't it make people a little sick after the shot?

An Australian Doctor in Sydney has been confirmed as catching Covid 19 from a patient he was treating who flew in from Iran last week.

Or at least that is what CH10 just reported.

Had the same thought. That's why I am being extra cautious and want my shot 7-10 days before departure so any reaction will have been and gone.
