Covid-19 - status pause

Another option is to extend status for another year, but require you to make up the shortfall in the following year in order to requalify.

ie, if you end the year at 900 SC as WP, you can keep WP but you’ll need 1500 SC to maintain WP next year. Would help generate future business.

I usually lose a lot of SCs at the end of the anniversary year so that sounds a good way forward. But then I might just make it to WP if the embargo doesn't go on too long.

Not sure if anyone has seen it but the status points in the QFF app appears to have a shadow that grows as you earn more status credits. it looks like it's half of what you are currently on.

I'm assuming this is how Qantas is going to compensate you. Whatever you have earned for the year x 1.5 would be your requalify amount.

Is this perhaps because you are close to achieving Platinum? Any others in the same position?

it actually isn't 50%, it looks like double since the scale changes between 0-1200 and then 1200-3600.

it also isn't my forward flights as there's no way I have 900SC worth of flights coming up, i do have about 220 sc worth which is going to be cancelled soon....

Perhaps its a function of your OS? I will try an Apple device and see if it appears.

Yep. 55 credits away and end of year is April 30th. Husbands account. We just cancelled a business flight Monday that would have done earned 80 scs.

I’m 70 short of WP requal with two domestic return flights booked before 30 June year end that world have got me over 1200. Maybe reckless but if able we might do both weekend trips. If the country is locked down then I’ll be at the mercy of QF’s ‘benevolence’.

Husband said sadly as I cancelled the work flights if this means he will miss WP requal. I said yes, unless they play nice. As we still have the voucher I said if he wanted he could grab a quick flight to Melb and make it. Now that suggestion is being joked about with work colleagues as me making him requal by flying a flight during a pandemic! Not going to bother me if he requals as we've cancelled all our flights where we would benefit from it.

Well just have to suffer! Gold for now.

Yes. He has Lifetime so not a biggie. Not as though people are going to be travelling much.

In the pre 2004 days when I didn’t requalify for Gold, I received an email asking if there was a reason why I wasn’t able to requalify and if I could explain my future travel pattern then they would consider renewing status. Does that still happen?

Def not - I have been bouncing between Gold and Lifetime Bronze for years.

I'm 40 status credits short of retaining Gold with my year ending 31 March. I had a status credit run booked for this weekend but have cancelled it because of the current environment. I think it's more important to self isolate at the moment. I'll work out how to requalify at a later point.

I was once given Gold when just short of qualifying, but that was along time ago. LTG now.

It's happening, just received the email

Dear Kevin,

The impacts of Coronavirus are unprecedented and continue to evolve on a daily basis.

Among the many impacts, we know your travel plans have been affected. We appreciate the need for flexibility during this time and the importance of preserving the travel benefits that you’ve earned through your loyalty to us.

To give you one less thing to worry about right now, your Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold status will automatically be extended for 12 months. The extension will be actioned in two phases - if your membership year ends:
  • between March and June 2020, it will be automatically extended by 27 March 2020; and
  • between July 2020 and February 2021, it will be automatically extended by 9 April 2020.
Your Membership Year end date is located in My Account or the Qantas App. If you have more questions visit qantas.com/statusextension. There is no need to register or call the contact centre, we will take care of everything.

In addition, while you’re spending less time in the air, we’ll be keeping Status Credits within reach through a series of new offers from our program partners. This will allow you to earn Status Credits across the Qantas Frequent Flyer program in addition to flying. You'll be hearing about the first of these offers very soon.

Qantas has faced and overcome adversity throughout our 100 years of operation. We will be here ready to welcome you back when your travel plans resume.

Our thoughts continue to be with all those affected and we recognise the work of everybody to contain the situation.

Thank you for your loyalty and support.
