Called to cancel ANZ black, they offered to take 50% off the membership fee. I offered them to throw some points at my direction then I'll reconsider. Computer said no so this card is gone.

Then was Qantas AMEX, they offered 30K points to keep it. Not bad offer for $249 fee as I value QF point at 1 cent. I'll get the points and call back to cancel.

Next will be NAB Platinum, completely useless card.

When I cancelled my ANZ black, the CSR was so offended that he said he was going to note down that I only had the card for the bonus points. I was wondering that this was none of his business whatsoever and his attitude only pisses off the customers even more.

An Australian CSR?

I've found in the last year or so, employees of the big 4 banks really seem to think that the customer is the enemy and we're all trying our hardest to screw the company that they somehow feel they owe something to.

If I happened to work at any of them, knowing what awful companies they are, I think my attitude would be to "take what ever you can get".

Just cancelled my 3rd NAB card. I wasn't thinking of getting again. He asked me in an accusatory way why I got the cc. I said in all surprised innocence at such an obvious q, "because I wanted a cc". He accepted that (and gave me my 4th card first yr free and 50K QF points. I don't think I'll get away with it again).

This is one of the reasons I send a letter to cancel rather than call.

Yes, understand, but they gave me a 50K QF points for zero cost taking me up to a juicy reward flight. ;) And, seeing as I'd just rec'd the DJs Amex a few days earlier, I rest on my laurels. Or, just rest.

This is one of the reasons I send a letter to cancel rather than call.

Yes it was an Australian CSR.

Cancelled my NAB card for the second time via the online secure messaging system (as suggested by an AFF in one of the threads). It was processed within 24 hours and no questions asked. Don't need any excuses.

Fair enough. If I was in the ANZ product management I would be figuring out a way to block the applicants that are just gaming the system ANZ, and NAB currently seem to be the suckers for it. A 3 year embargo would probably be enough to do it.
But its probable that they have already factored in the attrition rates and its not high enough to be bothered about it.

NAB would have done the same if you called them, the phone reps just process the cancellations and do not attempt to save your business. You should expect a phone call from their retention team within 1 week.

Processed about one and a half weeks ago. No emails or phone calls. Already received mail to confirm closure :)

Does anyone have contact details for the Reserve Bank Governor? I would like to personally thank him for making the changes to the interbank fees.

Since these changes were announced, I have re-doubled my efforts to avoid institutions that don't accept my Amex card. I have also cancelled two CCs with another 3 to go if they don't waive the fee come annual fee time, saving me almost $1,000 per annum.:D

I've successfully applied for the QF Premier card gaining another 60k bonus points. Best of all, I've embraced the Only 1 Visa and other gift cards in a much more meaningful way.;)

Overall, I'm averaging far more points per $ than before.

That is interesting! maybe they are snowed under with closures, and it would be pretty easy to tell who was gaming the system so not worth bothering.

Yesterday I rang to cancel my WOW card (after I received some bonus points from a targeted offer). I told the agent the 2,500 limit on 1:1 points was lousy and not worth the annual fee which has nearly doubled in 3 years. She told me I still get 0.5:1 unlimited above $2,500 and seemed to think that was fantastic.:p

I said not good enough. She said she couldn't do anything about the fee or bonus points but offered a low interest rate if I transferred the balance of my other cards. I told her I always pay my cards off each month so not much use to me.

She mentioned travel insurance, etc., etc., then agreed to cancel the card.

ANZ is next (assuming they won't waive the fee).

I'll be cancelling a card that had the annual fee waived for the second year (which is less than half way through) once I get my next lot of points. I only kept the card because I wasn't yet ready to switch. Both before and after the changes I get a lot more points from sign up bonuses than from regular spend. The companies want to win your business but aren't willing to go to the necessary lengths to retain it.

ANZ and an NAB card. Now with Amex and a Westpac Visa card.

Reduced CBA card Limit to $2000. ( has no annual fee )
Cancelled Westpac Altitude Platinum card ( very poor points earn, had the card for over 20 years)

Have new Amex Qantas Ultimate
ANZ Qantas Black VISA to use where Amex not accepted.

can you remind me of the benefit of the Only 1 Visa and gift cards please or point me to the thread?
What's the annual fee for QF Premier card?
Thanks.

I'm considering cancelling my NAB Qantas Premium.

The changes to the interbank fees actually seem to be a blessing in disguise, as I moved to an AMEX Premium (all my income would afford) and a Coles Mastercard for the times I can't use AMEX.

So the question is really, what's the best way of going about cancelling the card. I wouldn't be averse to them offering some bonus points for keeping it, but my annual fee isn't actually due till the end of the year. So, do I wait, or kill it now? I've already moved all direct debits to my other cards, so it's not actually being used.
