Just cancelled Jetstar M/C and have applied for Qantas Premier card. Hoping that this will the last time I need to cancel and re apply for a Credit Card.

Cancelled the NAB platinum card because I don't use it. Then the consultant reminded me because of home loans there was no fee. Might need to get it again shortly. ;)

Just cancelled Citi Prestige after having had it (and Select before it) for about 8 years. Shame but moving to no annual fee Simplicity and best of all saving a stack of annual fees on the cards I've cancelled.
May the ride with Amex long continue :)

as its turned out, post these changes I havent cancelled any credit cards and picked up a few more, now have 8
the missus has gone from 1 to 3

I was offered 18 months 0% BT by ANZ when converted my rewards Black to ANZ First $30 annual fee card.

Cancelled my ANZ Black today; couldn't see the value in paying $425 for a VISA (@ 1:1 up to 7,500). Was offered half fees for a year to keep the card but there are better deals out there, especially if you take the sign-on bonuses into account.

That makes 4 cancelled and one new one approved. Also, SWMBO has picked up two new cards.

The Reserve Bank has certainly encouraged us to re-evaluate our card strategy.

The ANZ Black is a great card to get for the sign up bonus with no annual fee for the first year. After getting the sign up bonus on your QFF activity statement, cancel, wait 12 months (unless the T&Cs change) and get it again.

Yes indeed; however my credit rating took a hit following too many applications and a change in job status, so I will review the situation in 12 months time.

I wouldn't worry too much about your score. Many providers of credit care little about this. Income and ability to repay are key features.

Your ability to repay obviously will take into account not only your income but also if you've had any defaults. Always paying your bill on time is key.

your change in job has a bigger impact. dont worry about your credit score. The worst thing that can happen if you apply for too many credit cards, is that it makes it harder to apply for new credit cards.

No defaults but the change of job status (redundancy + semi-retirement) together with a low score has resulted in a number of "declined" in the past couple of years.

For now, our current cards and the only GCs are working well.:)

Thanks to all for your thoughts.

I cancelled ANZ Black yesterday. I was offered half price annual fee ($187.5) but I went ahead with cancellation.

I am applying for the BOQ High Flyer CC for 120,000 Virgin points for $289.
ANZ CC is going.

Recently picked up the Coles Rewards MasterCard. Will be cancelling the NAB Premium Velocity in February before the annual fee is due. Keeping the AMEX cards and the fee free Citi Signature and 28 Degrees.
