I feel sorry for all the English fans who came to Oz following their team in such high hopes. Very emphatic result - only a few sessions for England all series.

Sadly it was only a few sessions that caused all the problems. Again in this test they collapsed yesterday afternoon after looking like they might do something... At least now the pain is gone...

Doesn't seem to me that England lost the ashes on just a few sessions.

I would suggest that a major factor was England's inability to wag the tail. It would be interesting to compare the runs scores for the last 5 wickets in each innings, and then compare the runs scores for the first 5 wickets of each innings. But I don't have time to do that right now.

You're right, but some top order failures also.

Runs scored by England after fall of 5th wicket

1st test - 1st innings 78, 2nd innings 99
2nd test - 1st innings 62* (innings declared for 6 wickets), 2nd innings 52
3rd test - 1st innings 108, 2nd innings 89
4th test - 1st innings 37, 2nd innings 71
5th test - 1st innings 46, 2nd innings 34

Fall of 5th wicket

1st test - 1st innings 79, 2nd innings 271
2nd test - 1st innings 489, 2nd innings 77
3rd test - 1st innings 108, 2nd innings 261
4th test - 1st innings 122, 2nd innings 90
5th test - 1st innings 245, 2nd innings 113

Thanks for doing the research. It does show a difference there as I suspected.

It's a bit frightening when Shane Warne gets better batting figures for the series than ANY of the POMMY batsmen.

and better bowling figures too!

Then again, he was the top scorer on the Aussie card in the 5th test, and they won by 10 wickets! Now that says something .... (just not sure exactly what).

I'm slightly annoyed that I never betted on Australia winning 5-0.

Does anyone who is a betting person know the odds that were on offer at the beginning of the series?

Glenn McGrath would know. It is the reason he has retired from test cricket. ;)

Well the poms continue their form in the one-day match in Brisbane. All out for 155.

Just now I see some spots of rain on my windows, but according to the radar its not going be enough to save the England team.

now only 53 more runs with 5 wickets in hand. But needing 2.5/over should not be a problem.

So long as they keep batting and don't go out in a rush.

.....sorry, we are talking about Oz here, NOT the POMs. Should be safe then.
