Trans-Tasman final ..... Aussies should win given that MCG is bigger ground than those Kiwi backyards ....

I guess the Seven Elevens and taxis are now back running on the east coast.
The Kiwis are no easy beats.

The Kiwi strength is their batting. Look at their history. Not one match played out of NZ. Tiny grounds. Maybe even a false sense of security to go for a slog and get caught short.

Many have quoted about "small grounds" in NZ being a factor, but I haven't seen anyone go to the data as yet and see how many that cleared the ropes in NZ would have fallen short in Aus.

The data must be available, but how widely and in what accessible form who knows?

A terrible image in my mind of all the Kiwis being caught short!

When Guptill hits one over 100 meters, I think it'll clear the rope at every cricket ground in the world ;)

That would be my point.
We are referring to mis hits that go for 6 in NZ grounds but are catchable on grounds like the MCG...I think that the result of the pool match in Auckland on a small ground under NZ conditions is irrelevant to the Final on the MCG on Sunday...I would say that Aus go in as favorites, and NZ will need to play at its absolute best to win....

Was agreeing with that point ;)

Just remember that Hagley Oval, Seddon Park, and University Oval are all cricket grounds. As for mis-hits, that goes both ways. It's a single game of cricket and both teams have to play on the same ground. These guys are all professionals who are used to travelling the world playing cricket on grounds of different shapes and sizes. It's not going to bother the Kiwis as much as Australia seems to think it will. I really do hope the Aussies keep on underestimating the Kiwis.

Got to agree that Aus go in as favorites, but I do think it's closer than people think.

It all comes down to one game. Anything can happen. Too close to call.

I'm not sure it's the end of the world for many Aussies if NZ win it which probably shows what the relationship is like. Aussies will often support NZ in other sports (except rugby union of course) but for the Kiwis it's usually a case of "anyone but Australia". For us it's "anyone but England" (or South Africa in cricket). Kiwis are often surprised by the fact that we support them.

It would be nice for some of our guys to go out with a win if they are retiring soon (Haddin, possibly Clarke) but if NZ wins then good on them, they will deserve it.

The final starts in 5.5 hours. May the best team win and let's hope there are no controversies. What's the weather like in Melbourne? We were promised sun in Sydney and it's overcast so I was wondering.

Sunny right now.

I'm a bundle of nervous energy right now, and probably will be for most of the day.

not much of a game at this time unless NZ has a miraculous resurrection
