Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Just yesterday I saw some social media postings of a proud flyer on AA Flagship First LAX-JFK. Enjoying the cabin with a big fat can of...

Bud Light.

So...

QF FLounge could be worse :D

Pretty much the equivalent of Crown Larger, which I assume you can get in the Flounge. I don't know, I've never asked.

Some of the older pax don't like change.

Yeah, nah...

Bud light is a low carb Carlton, or VB, without any of the flavour.

Putting aside my in-formal view that Carlton draught, VB and Crown all come from the same tank. Crown at least tastes different to the other two.

Some years back flying SQ F out of MEL VB was an option.

I nearly spat out my Krug! :D

I quite like VB but then again I used to like Foster's before we upped sticks

Asked for an espresso martini in the SYD Flounge today and it was refused “we only do the coughtails on the menu”.

Got one in the MEL Flounge in May, and could get them here in SYD pre covid. Not like it’s a difficult coughtail, and they’re making espresso anyway.

I didn’t try and get one on my last visit but it has been my “morning coffee” in the past…

Got the same disappointing answer for my coughtail. Simple to make, got it many times in the past. No issuee in F SIN, yet.

Pretty amazing they can't make anything other than the coughtail menu options — nothing remotely first class about that. Presumably this is a result of staff deskilling (are new recruits not actual bartenders?) and cost cutting (reducing need to stock a large range of spirits and other ingredients).

Maybe once QF lets people lose status again things will improve a little but maybe not the whole way back to pre-COVID standards.

No, they have all the ingredients (actually fairly well stocked bar) and the MEL Flounge let me order off menu just a few months ago.

Sounds like it’s down to individual personalities, and perhaps the bartenders are not well trained so they don’t let them go off script.

Presumably a regular G&T is ok???
