Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

I'm going to be controversial here. I was in the MEL F lounge on Sunday. I had the salt and pepper squid. I've had it a few times previously too. It is the most over-rated dish. There is nothing particularly great about it.

I'm now donning an asbestos suit ready to be flamed.
No suit required. I have enjoyed it, but not been wowed by it.

Have to agree. It is ‘yum’ but more or less just a pub classic type dish, not worthy of the fetishisation at all. I guess it’s more about what it represents than the thing itself.

Some observations: :)

'Humpty Doo barramundi' - Humpty Doo isn't on a waterway. And anyway, NP is "committed to using local produce"

"Pavlova with strawberries and blueberry's " - note possessive apostrophe
The fish refers to the commercial fish business where they source it. Nothing to do with the place name. Similar to “Cape Grim Beef” which may or may not come from Tasmania.

First Lounge Spring Menu
Probably a first world problem and niche issue, but I always wondered Qantas‘ in my view terrible taste in beer offerings. It seems that they can‘t even offer some decent craft beers from micro breweries in the F Lounge. In comparison, CX had even HK Craft Beer stocked in the J lounges back in the days (and I drank a lot of them)!

I think it’s just because of their liquor contract, they‘d only get the beers aligned to that particular distributor. This can include craft beers but more the mainstream mass produced craft beers (Eg Stone & Wood).

I read your comment and had to go check the beers. I was having flashes of Furphy, and Carlton and that Dry one that's popular.

Personally, nothing wrong with Coopers and Kosciusko pale ales. Rogers is good as well even if Little creatures is owned by some multinational now.
I will even give Heineken zero 1 star because it's a zero alcohol beer that tastes the most like the alcoholic version. But don't drink zero alcohol beers because they still make you fat, and you get none of the benefits

Having said all that, I'd never drink a beer in the first lounge when there are so many better booze options available, and I'm not going to be driving any time soon.
