Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Agree the approach with spirits is really poor and has been for some time, especially in SYD. Though to be fair, think I've only ever once been denied a double shot.

Just the other night was proactively offered a double Dalwhinnie 15 in MEL.

Perhaps just to finish off the bottle. (Hopefully not their last).

Never been denied a Bloody Mary or (in the past) an Old Fashioned - but I guess these fit the aperitif ethos.

As others have said, makes no sense from a RSA perspective, nor costs. I recall a discussion with the MEL F&B manager a few years back where he said QF management simply didn't prioritise securing spirits over other airport lounges.

I saw French 75 on the coughtail menu and thought there’s no way you can make that weak.

It turns out they used commercial premix bottles without real champagne. Exactly 1.0 standard drinks (it says it on the bottle - she served me an empty glass and the bottle, I assume in error, surely QF don’t want us knowing it’s premixed).

Going back to straight champas now.

Also sampled the braised pork which was tasty and a generous serve.

I ordered this a few months ago and it looked nothing like this! At at least a few shades lighter and didn't enjoy it. This definitely looks better.

The 3 times I've been to the F Lounge in MEL in the past 2 months, the champers were served at room temp :(. Is it just my bad luck?

The apple butter cake and vanilla yogurt sorbet was great though!

Winter breakfast menu in the SYD F lounge today:

Practically identical to the autumn breakfast menu except the buckwheat, mushroom and spinach bowl, which was not quite as expected - was imagining soba noodles. It was fine but forgettable, probably wouldn't order again.

Corner fritters for good measure - delicious as always.

Did you / will sneak a peak at the ADD menu from 11am?

I've asked them for it twice, and been told "yes sure" only for it to not appear! But I will do my best to grab a snap!

Stir fried duck with black vinegar, choy sum, cashews and chilli

Wasn't expecting pulled duck, but it was fairly tasty with a good chilli kick. Also grabbed a few snaps of the decanters:

I think I’ll try the beef.

There’s at least 3 starters I want to have (including the usual S&P Squid). The mussels sound interesting.
