Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

OK, I think you have sold me on the Pork, S&P and the Chicken. 

Now to work out the matching wines 

I feel like the wine list has gone downhill since the first time you guested me in. Champagnes are at the lower end and the wine list can be a bit "vinomofo" at times...

The champagnes have generally always been on the "lower end" (NV).
It's not like the CCR, DOH QR F or CDG AF F where they have prestige cuvees in the lounges...?

True, but Bollinger was a little more fancy, and last year they had Moet Vintage. Now it seems to be three basics...

The chicken was perfectly cooked and tasty, but not special*.

If it wasn't for surprisinly robust Thai beef brisket salad "snack" I had on the flight from Melbourne I woukd have had a go at the poached fish.

*The most special feed I have had in the Newson First lounges since they opened just under 9 years ago was a sausage.

I wouldn't get too excited over the MH Flounge at KL, of the three (QF, CX, MH) it comes a very distant 3rd ... although I've heard it can be very relaxing (eg empty) at times.

Consistently, the Lounges appear to be MH's worst hard-product offering.

BD

I kinda disagree. I quite like the KUL satellite terminal F lounge. It's not QF SYD F or any of the others mentioned. But it has it's own je ne sais quoi. Maybe it's special for an airline/country that doesn't have the resources of QF/CX/BA. I don't know, obviously.

Someone mentioned lack of power. That was frustrating, but I think that's the lounge in the main terminal at KUL.

Couldn't be bothered for b'fast ... late lunch or nothing.

So many flights depart right around 11am. :(

Ok so just had the:
Salt and Pepper Squid (usual best)
black pepper chicken (only just cooked but nice)
Chairman Mao Pork (sensational)

Accompanied by
Squire Pale Ale
Taittinger
Decanter of the day (Henschke)
Hendricks and Tonic (cucumber of course)

I wonder how much QF budgets per guest to the lounge. And I wonder how consistently AFF members exceed that estimate.

I am a CX guest tonight so it doesn't matter ðŸ

I guess they would budget different amounts for breakfast vs. dinner time flights.

I actually like the MH lounge in KUL as well. It's never been busy for me, the bathrooms and showers are solid, and service is always good. For example, I've always been able to get a drink sitting anywhere in lounge, as opposed to the QF lounge where getting a drink brought to you outside the dining area is much more difficult.

Food and coffee isn't anywhere close to QF lounge quality, but it's def not bad.

I feel like finding a decanter is a bit like snipe hunting. Anyone seen one in MEL recently? I've never seen on there in ~12 visits in the past 18 months, nor in 2x visits to SYD. Any tips on what time of day might be best to find one? Also, has one ever been spotted in TBIT?

Lunchtime in SYD is usually the go from our experience.

Never seen one in Melbourne...I always assumed it was a Sydney thing.

OK thanks y'all! I'll have to figure out how to get there for an afternoon departure then. Finding the decanter wine is just one of those things that would completely make my day.

Used to be one in Melbourne early to mid evening however it hasn't been available for a number of months. Also not a decanter in the true terms but was a number of good bottles kept under the bar. The special wine in the past has been as good as Penfolds RWT.
