Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Today's lunch in SYD. Chairman Mao's pork was the winner, the spaghetti was nice and the wine from the decanter was okay, but not special. The chicken salad also rates a mention.

image.jpgimage.jpgAnd for dessert the chocolate cream fancier was much better than the banana cream profiteroles. Only one spa spot available so Mrs Rugby is taking that and I'm going to watch planes and sip red wine in my 'Smokey Dawson recliner'

Can't tell what year the cab is, but I think it's like a $20 bottle. Not real impressive IMO.

2010 - Not worth dusting off the decanter. I also noticed that there was a 'we're packing up for day' feel that hit at about 5pm - the snack sections at either end of the lounge were packed away, the Dyson came around, and for the first time in a while I thought I can see the impacts of a cost cutting programme in play here - the Macallan has run out and not been replaced, the Bolly has gone, the small bottles of still and sparkling water are no longer in the self serve fridges. Little touches that made it the best F lounge in the world seem to be falling away.

Wahh? they were running the Dyson with guests in the lounge? Not cool.

Happened to me several times. I don't mind if they're a bit conscious of guests and after a busy period (eg after a bunch of flights leave around midday) it's actually nice to see some effort to tidy. In a similar vein though, I don't like how they pack up all the alcohol onto a trolley to put away in the Dom J lounges, sometimes up to 3 hours before the lounge actually closes (Sydney and Canberra most of the time). A very poor look.

What? No more self serve water.
That's not RSA with self serve booze around. ;)

They never do that in Sydney dom J lounge on a thursday night.

We've been vaccuumed around in the Melbourne F lounge...

Their decanter standards seem to be slipping; best I've had was Hentley Farm The Beast shiraz, and I think we drank a bottle or two.

I was in SYD Flounge late last week and agree. The Chairman Mao's pork was delicious. There was no sashimi / cured fish starter which I was looking forward to, when I was there though?
The buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomato salad was also delightful.
I thought this season's pavlova was OTT sweet, unfortunately.

The chocolate cream sweet you posted looks excellent :)

Enjoyed the Autumn salad leaves with anchovy dressing, and now the fish tagine (is that new?) in SYD F this afternoon.
Also the Vasse Felix Cab Sauv is going down a treat!

Not winter yet, it's still Autumn.
I'll be back in two weeks for Winter breakfast and will happily report on that too!
It's listed on the proper menu which is very different from 3 weeks ago, I just compared photos. I can post photos later.

Thanks. I have visits (in Melbourne) coming up end-May and mid-June. Hoping for different menus, though the Autumn menu was reasonable.

I believe you'll get two different menus as QF seem pretty good at rotating on or very close to the change of seasons. :)

Has the winter menu started? Or were these market inspirations?

The fish tagine (below) is a new-ish dish from NP's new The Food I Love book – I'd expect to see more of NP's much-loved dishes on the winter menu when it debuts at the start of June.

Slightly OTT, but The Food I Love is originally from 2005/6--it's just been republished as a paperback.

Also, "much loved" sounds very QF PR-y, Mr Flynn.
