Current Qantas First Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

All happening in MEL F today. Arrived after QF35 boarded and had the lounge to ourselves for 15 to 20 minutes. Seated in the restaurant and one of the ceiling to floor window blinds to my immediate right decided to detach itself from said ceiling and get friendly with the floor. Disaster averted and then approached by the lounge staff to ask if we wanted one of the meeting rooms reserved, which I'm sitting in now not knowing if this is the (in)famous baby change room. On to the food... Mrs 340 adored the duck curry, I loved the brioche with salmon and the fried cauliflower. Swordfish was a disappointment. We've decided to have seconds of the duck curry before the flight to avoid the Y food onboard. Oh, and cheese plates ordered to the meeting room as I type.

I had the "Market Inspirations" papardelle in Sydney last week. It was so inspiring I forgot to take photos ... sort of a pea soup sauce with fresh peas for colour and some cheese on top. I couldn't taste any walnuts as per the description. I added nearly the entire salt dish and pepper grinder for some flavour!

First world issue I know, but it must be approaching school holidays, as the nice wine and towels in the bathrooms were also missing.

I forgot to post this the other day. Early March, I used the Qantas Singapore lounge and I have to say, their curry laksa off the ala carte menu was awesome. Well done Qantas!

The SYD Flounge keeping its recent good form up for us again today. We started with the Gua Bao, fried cauliflower and salmon on toasted brioche - all very nice. For mains the red duck curry and pork lo mein - both excellent. In the decanter Samantha’s Paddock 2014 - a Cab Sauv blend, an excellent rich, big red. We also lucked in with both of us getting day spa treatments and the quality was, once again, very good. We’re two happy WPs.

Hoping for a quick release of the winter menu as I will be back in MEL in a few days.

My visit to the MEL lounge on the weekend wasn’t great, mainly as the spa wasn’t open. But sampled a few dishes to while away the time. Quality seems to be better in MEL compared to recent visits, although the dishes themselves weren’t all that inspiring.

Despite the lounge being well patronised - albeit in fairly orderly waves for LAN, QR, EK (peak) then the 151 and CX flights - staff were about half the previous complement, meaning no proactive service to the seats, delays for drinks and no top-ups etc. Nearly all new faces too. Just one visit so can’t judge too harshly.

Will post pics shortly.

Salmon on toasted brioche. Very nice although the brioche was very soggy.

Gua bao was pretty poor. Chewy bun and not much flavour. Such a comedown from the first offerings in SYD.

The pork lo mein was very good.

Surprisingly the vegetarian bibimbap was probably the standout. Surprising as 1 it’s vegetarian and 2 it kind of felt like risotto with kimchi and pickled veg on the side. But it worked.

Don’t think this has been posted before so tried it out and glad I did.
