Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I was wondering people's thoughts on Henschke - Cyril? The 2016 recently got given 100 pts by Andrew Caillard. It'd be around $105 after discounts.

This has huge cellar potential, as much as I'd love it for my birthday next year I think I'd have to hold one for another 10 years minimum.

Any recommendations for some nice wines for my birthday? Unfortunately everything I buy now is very young.

I found First Choice has a Cullen - Diana Madeline 2011 which just hits the recommended drinking age by next year I believe.

Most the BWS clearance stock is always the latest vintage in general, but FC seems to hold older vintages of wines.

Diana Madeline would be just entering its drinking window I'd suggest. Built to last.

Cyril Henschke is a great wine but again it depends on your tastes and what you like, especially for triple digits!

Take a drive to the Henschke cellar door and try it.

And lastly, if you have a link to $105 CH, share it. Would probably be more well received than $5 merlot 🤣

I mean it’s not going to be horrible next year. Sure it won’t have any age but if you want that wine, it’s still going to be a good wine, just young.
If you want good, aged wine then most of the time auction will be your best bet.
At least with all your purchases now, you won’t have this issue in a decade.

For your birthday Mr Luc you should opt for nothing but the best.. Hill of Grace or bust
That's a bit out of reach 🤣

Yeah, it's difficult to find wines I'd be able to drink next year.
I've own half their range already so I like the wines from the winery.

I could always keep it for my 50th, down the track.
You can find most the wines I mention online through Cashbacks, there's no secret.

It depends on your state, most which most mentioned here is never available in SA & every store has different vintages.

Langton's? I have no idea what the wines are worth.
Any recommendations from everyone? Definitely looking for just a couple of wines, they don't have to be $100+.

Langtons is ok. Wickmans gives better guarantee of provenance.
Langtons has price ranges which are pretty accurate. If there’s no bids you can “watch” an item and if it doesn’t meet reserve you get the option to buy it at reserve.
There’s no real bargains but it isn’t a bad way to try some aged wines to see if what you’re expecting after storing your bargains will end up like you hoped.

Thanks, I'll check out Wickmans too 👍

I found the 16 to be pretty good (rich though not necessarily full bodied imo), but haven't opened an older vintage to compare.

Could just be that NG doesnt rate the Eileen's as high as JH does.

HH gave the 16 a good score and ranked it #4 MV shiraz for 2016.

Happy to pick up a case.

There's a lot of new higher end wines in the Under Wraps section, but I haven't been able to work out many. The Rose Kentish is also back, probably good if stored well, but I wouldn't recommend based on my experience: https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_MYSTERY179/under-wraps-mclaren-vale-cabernet-shiraz-2014
Damn - went to buy it and all gone - I thought it was a wonderful wine but maybe I got a good batch (I bought 4 packs last year and drank one already)

Can we please keep this thread focused on deals and not requesting recommendations from everyone otherwise it gets off track. I would pick up a Halliday wine companion or join real review or winefront if you want expert recommendations.
