Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

- Probably more lower supply driving the clean out of stock. Lamella especially is notoriously difficult to buy at retail.
- 12 months of more word of mouth
- 12 months closer to the day you look back and say "remember when the Standish wines were only ~$100"

55% less yield in Eden Valley.

Lamella is always produced in small quantities therefore goes out of stock first, followed by Schubert. Lamella also gets consistent high scores and on top there’s the mentality among wine collectors of hoarding the most hard to get bottles.

Hit the nail on the head.. absolute cracking wine. I’d still see value at $200/bt TBH

lamella in general is hard to obtain.
I’m on direct list from Dan, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a couple of times. He’s so great to chat to. I was in hospital when 2019 release came out so timing off for me for lamella this year unfortunately
One could argue that the standish is the better wine. Better track record, scores etc

Splitting hairs really, all the wines are quite well reviewed - agree that the Standish arguably has a bit more acclaim, but it doesn't have the same supply constraints.

I think you are going to need to try them to see what fits your palate - we have a few bottles but haven't tried them all (only the relic, which we didn't decant for long enough). I have a hunch I'll probably lean towards relic or lamella based on what we like to drink though.

Wouldn't it be upto a preference of Eden Valley over Barossa? On paper it sounds like personally I would prefer The Shubert Theorem. Lucky I have a self imposed 2 digit per bottle spending ceiling!

Good luck with that. I used to follow that exact same rule once... To my defensive it was much easier to score top shelf wines < $100 back then. Good excuse isn’t it ;)

To be honest, my palate lacks sophistication to benefit from the ever so diminishing (personal) marginal improvement of quality as the price goes up. I think my true inflexion point is at about $50-$70 mark - also I am quite impartial to Bourgogne!

Thanks so much, I already have quite a bit of the standish and ST, really chasing the lamella. Will grab the different drop pack in need if no one knows of any lamella around
offline independents are your best bet

if you:
  • are a long-time mailing list customer
  • have visited his cellar door and spoken with him a few times
  • were in hospital during this year's release
then i would suggest contacting him directly about your situation

back then meaning less than a year ago?
Found some nice gems at Vintage Cellars.

Someone just beat me to Mount Marry, he was literally holding the last two bottles as I entered the store but I managed to clean out their Standish stock which was somehow overlooked by others :)
