Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Last time I asked for Pinot Noir suggestion under $30. Few members (MadMick10 and AnonymousCoward) suggested Paringa Estate Pinot Noir that my partner and I really enjoyed. Thank you.
This time, I have upped my budget to $100-150 Pinot Noir for my partner and I upcoming engagement dinner with our families. Can I get some suggestions please? I'm thinking to get Bass Phillip Pinot Noir but it's slightly above the budget.

I really enjoyed the KUPE Escarpment Pinot Noir 2013 from Martingborough, New Zealand recently. It's a little bit young, but drinking really, really well. Apparently, hardly any made it to Aus and it scored a 98 and a 99 from well respected Kiwi wine experts, including from James Suckling who said:

"A striking wine thanks to the many complex facets to its personality. This is the zenith of the Escarpment pinot noir collection, a wine that gathers the personalities of its siblings and adds its own layer of class and complexity to the mix. Orange blossom, ripe dark cherries, freshly tilled earth, deep-wound woody spices, dried plums and even some beef stock and a hint of pepper all sit on the nose _ complex and regal. The palate is textured like deep velvet, profoundly flavored and woven together with deep-seated tannins, seamless and long. Every type of cherry, blueberry or plum is layered in soft, fleshy sections, building in layered waves of tannins as this wine goes on and on. The acidity finally creeps up to illuminate the finish. A profound pinot noir. A triumph not only for Escarpment and Larry McKenna, but for New Zealand pinot noir at large. Drink in 2015."

I am happy to sell you one or two bottles for the price paid (under your $100 floor) if you want to give them a go. Just PM me. I have 5 left. MyWineGuy have 6 Packs at $79.99 a bottle (I paid a bit more than that - they must have dropped the price from first release): https://www.mywineguy.com.au/shop/item/escarpment-kupe-pinot-noir-2013

Alternatively, I recently read in the Financial Review Magazine December 2015 edition that the Mount Mary Pinot Noir 2013 ($145 cellar door) is a great pinot. Philip Rich said in his write up on this wine:

"A standout at the Stonier International Pinot Tasting in Melbourne in October, this Yarra Valley wine was served masked against 11 top-flight pinots from around the world. Old vines and relatively minimalist winemaking, in which all the fruit was de-stemmed and only 25 per cent new oak used, results in a wine that is pure, complex, structured and beautifully balanced. I'll put some in the cellar." I haven't tried it, but it sounds pretty good if it won a blind tasting of top pinots.

Winestar have it in singles at $139.99 a bottle: Mount Mary Pinot Noir 2013

I am sure there will be some other good suggestions from the floor too.

Congratulations also from me on your engagement.

I grabbed a few bottle of 2012 Stonier Reserve Pinot Noir last time i was in Mornington Peninsula. Amazing stuff and got plenty of acclaim. It is probably one of the best Pinot I have had in a while if not ever! Backed up with 96pts from Halliday. DM has it for $49.39 in any six but winedirect.com.au has it for $49 a bottle and can have the 30% off code added to it as well making it a touch over $35 a bottle. Catch is that you have order 12 bottles total, but you can get a few bottles and top it up with some other stuff as well.

Don't forget the extra 10% ordering via Paypal link.

edit: Sorry I think that is Winemarket.

albert_ang congrats on your engagement. Lots of good advice already given. A few others worth consideration would be Ata Rangi or Felton Road 2013 from Central Otago NZ or by Farr Farrside or Sangreal 2012/13 Geelong Vic, Yabby Lake 2012/13 Mornington Peninsular Vic. The FR and YL have individual Block Pinots that are very good.

I would second all that Sedimental recommends. Especially the Felton Road Blocks 3 and 5. Stunning wines.

Congratulations Albert. I would also agree with Felton Road wines. I was in that part of the world a few years ago and asked a local wine merchant for his pinot recommendation - he suggested Felton Road and I wasn't disappointed.

I agree with all the suggestions above, especially the Escarpment. Wonderful wine. But from CO in NZ, don't overlook Mount Edward and the fabulous Pisa Range ( one of best in central Otago), plus locals such as Paringa Estate "The Paringa" ( stunning) and my house wines of the Curley Flat Pinots are very hard to go past. (And their Chardonnay for whites.)

ENJOY!

The Escarpment Kupe Pinot always gets a good rap, what is their Pahi Pinot like in comparison?

Hi everyone, Anyone aware of any great offers on Champagne? I want to buy a few bottles under $100, but want to steer away from the same old Moet, Veuve, Mumm etc. Any suggestions? Prefer a 100% Chardonnay, but a good Chardonnay Pinot Noir Pinot Meunier could work as well

At the cheaper end I am a Lanson fan. I have had the Lanson 2002 Vintage in the past and been a big fan. I have not tried the 2005 vintage which is current but I imagine it would be very nice. I think Dan's have it for about $56 which seems pretty good value to me.

For something different, try Jacquasson 738. Its simply brilliant IMHO.
