Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

massive shout out thank you for posting the vintage cellar Wynns deal. Have ordered 11 bottles of the 2019 as I think last year the 2018 was already on sale.

And this just in from The Wine Collective:

Now TBH - I did buy a doz from Kemeneys last week - tested 1 out on 2 guinea pigs at The Olive Tree on Wed nt - great nose but just doesn't dance on the tongue - it only had 30mins or so in decanter but it had zero wow factor and I am far from convinced it would improve much more - I am sending balance 11 botts back for refund.

I applaud you for taking the plunge, but any wine that is marketed as $480 and needs to discounted to $50 to sell sets off massive alarm bells for me.

Each to there own but with Kemeneys return policy it is of no concern to me - nothing ventured nothing gained - what about the Pertaringa Yeoman that was dropped frpm $250 to sub $100? You would be concerned about that? It is a spectacular wine and a steal at $100 - clearly nowhere near the discount as the First Pick but still a huge discount - but as I say each to their own and lucky we all get spend our own $s huh?

It was more a statement about the wineries/retailers pricing than about your purchasing habits. As I said I applaud you giving it a go.

Is it though? A steal at $100? I found it pretty over-ripe

$100 puts you in some pretty esteemed company - Standish (on a good day, harder the most recent vintage); Duval eligo; even more recent 389s; Bekkers; some of the Yangarra stuff) - and that's before you get to the better value options like Parallian etc

I'd pay $50 for the Yeoman, and still probably be a bit disappointed

I think some do still get caught up in the whole 'major discount' trick

For those who considered, but didn’t boom on the 2018 St Hallett Higher Earth Syrah deal a week or so back, but still want some, it’s down to $39 at Qantas wines.

Not a big enough discount to create a storm with the OB crowd, 😉 but still well below cellar door price.

To be honest, it's a bit of both

I used to post a bit more with deals etc, but it does feel like they're few and far between these days. Pre-covid and at the start of covid it felt like there was a lot more - e.g. the BWS clearance stuff, back when my wine guy was a thing etc.

Similarly, these days the ratio of deals/wine thoughts to cashback/etc posts has shifted quite a bit. Of course, today is proving that wrong (!) but in general over the last few months. I think redbigot did it well by separating the cashback posts into a separate thread on his forums

anyway, as you can see there's a lot of folks who like the cashback posts in this thread so i'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but i do wonder if there are others such as myself who have lost engagement a bit 🤷‍♂️
exactly, not sure why ole mate got so triggered by my post to dummy spit. i guess having a dedicated thread for cashback 'notifications' is such a foreign concept to some, but I'm with you that I've lost engagement with the noise these last couple of years.

This worked for me, so I hope it works for you too (ie not targeted or whatever). Uber Eats have 30% off at Liquorland and Vintage Cellars until Sunday. I'm getting an additional 30% off at checkout. Got a Dalwhinnie 15 and a 4pk of Bodriggy NEIPA for $63 delivered. But you guys might like the look of the gin, champagne and wine prices.

How does that one work? Dalwhinnie 15 is showing at $132 or $138... so what do you do to drop it that low?

Edit: looks like a Vic thing maybe... uber eats in ACT doesn't seem to do booze

Might want to check for a cap.

Rochford Wines are doing some decent discounts on certain packs. Changing each week over the next 5-6 weeks. Good chance over the next little bit to stock up on that gap in the cellar or get some pretty well priced quaffers. Rochford Wines - Yarra Valley
Copy that. I got two dozen of Chardonnay last week and I will probably go for the Merlot as well this week.
Pack B with 6 bottles of La Droite who is a pretty decent wine after proper aeration and 6 bottles of the basic Merlot that was correct last time I tasted it at $11.66/bottle delivered sounds like a correct deal to me.

Those Rochford deals come back very regularly. Just sign up to the newsletter.
