Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Sorry, should have put that in context, it's the wine that was offered via the GWD/boozebud deal (locked out of the cellar now that the allotted time has expired)....

At under $9.00 a bottle should have jumped on it....
still there…and appears to be $8.99 as a regular price on GWD. Suspect this is a “made for discount clearance” wine. Low scores on Vivino.

maybe you guys have a lot more points than me…for 80k points I’d look for a family return trip to Qld or a couple of business class upgrades to LAX rather than 6 bottles of wine?
Qantas has gone to the toilet lately with limited seat availability for points. Also it depends on how you earned points. Going rate via credit card churn is roughly $100-200 annual fee for 75k points

Agree 100%. QF points offer best value when booking award seats either on their own metal or OW partners. Any other use reduce their value significantly.

I'm not usually one for posting 'secret wines' but it seems to me that MyCellars latest secret offering is the Lehmann Mentor Cabernet 2015; not a bad price at $25.50. I haven't had one for years, but if memory serves it was quite a nice Cabernet.

However, I went to find some critic scores and I could barely find mention of the 2015 vintage - that seems a bit ominous (perhaps declassified). At $25 a bottle does it matter?

dont mind the Colonial Shiraz at $29.99 but that's really about it from GWD. But I don't even buy it any more since you order a dozen and you can guarantee 100 spam calls from Nambour.

I only ever buy mixed cases of reds from them (GWD) for the mother-in-law who doesn't seem able to negotiate the rococo intricacies of :rolleyes:e-commerce. Her budget only stretches to $10-12 a bottle so it is quite a challenge to buy her something drinkable, it's nearly as challenging as getting a Wordle sorted in one go in my book! Interesting to see whether the Boozebud takeover of GWD ultimately affects how they do business, btw to get around the cold-calling and spamming I provided a redundant land-line number and changed a couple of digits on my mobile, it works a treat!

Again, a little out of this group's purview (and on the pricier side), but Thorn Clarke's Ron Thorn Shiraz
appears to be going (as special SMS mystery) on The Wine Collective for $39.99 down from $110.
It has a pretty sound 4.4 on Vivino, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it....

@kevviek I loved the 2012 a year or two back and then tried the 2015 which was good but not as good as the 2012 at the time. So I stashed it and the 2016 hoping time will do the same for them as it did for the 2012

Its worth buying some at that price. Its quite a reasonable weekday wine.

May wish to sign up to Mike Press Wines directly if wiling to buy larger volumes. Regular (bulk purchase) deals, and 2021 Pinot currently ~$17.10pb delivered if you buy a dozen. Nicks is great though (but miss being able to wander the "store" now warehouse!).

Maybe we should start a separate Grays thread, though being auctions I assume there's hesitation on what to suggest.
Tannin, thanks for the tip. A couple of weeks ago I went to my brothers holiday house in Somers for a couple of nights with goodies in hand. I ddin't expect to knock off all 4 pinots on the one night with him, plus a shiraz. Next day hangover was pretty good I have to say but we still managed pier10 at shoreham. Can i just say that i ordered a case from Nicks because....the mike press 2021 pinot which i am drinking right now after having a 2010 Holm in the late afternoon is probably the best value pinot i have ever had. The complexity is perverse for the price point and i thought the Holm in comparison was very one dimensional. Stuff all fruit, sure reasonable body but just a pinot. But i re-tested the Press after spending five hours collating and putting aside the old hardwood fence which was renewed two weeks ago. I had about 55metres of palings, rails and posts to dissasemble for future burning. As i continue to sip the MP and I am one of those who hits the 'hmm, not that good' button early, it is fantastic. One of those 4 at my bros was the Macedon shadowfax that was refereed to me by the state manager of the wholesale distributor who flogs about 15 wines. i asked him....long story there which i cant go into...but i asked him to give me the best under $30 pinot. he came back with punt road airlie 2021 and the shadowfax which was $32 at dans i think. The shadowfax is a stunner and better than the mike press to be honest BUT $17 isnt $32 is it. Sorry i am rambling here but the 2022 airlie bank i think it is is out in dannys. Do not buy it. It is disgusting folks and i was lucky to have a free taster at dannys in eltham. i really liked the 2021 and bought about 9 botts at dannys in bulleen when it was on spesh at $19 i think. enough. time to pour another one which is always a good sign.

I’m still holding on to the last one of my Shadowfax Chardonnays, a wine that blew me away when I had one in a restaurant (I’m usually a red drinker) and was then lucky enough to find some half price via a deal in this forum.
