Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

For any other fans of the Giant Steps guys, the FinewineCo Secret Carton Pinot Noir Shiraz 6 Pack that was recently offered appears to be the 2020 Giant Steps LDR.

I expect the time investment in doing that would quickly make it not worthwhile for me - I'm very slow!

I still think it's just a bit cheeky of langtons to throw in a dud vintage that's past it. But I accept that's business.

Jeez, that’s disappointing. I boomed on the same assumption that it was Giant Steps, couldn’t find any other YV Pinot Shiraz blends on the site. Have emailed to see if I can cancel.

Given that the usual magnum price is $45, are people buying these because it's a cheap magnum, or because it's a quality wine?

I've been living in Quebec for the past year. The Barossan is what the local SAQ recommends as a "great Aussie wine"... Not a bad wine, but nothing special, sadly not much better on offer here. I'm so looking forward to getting back home in April. I am craving a good Wynns Black Label so much.

Oops - I fear that you are probably correct. Hope I enjoy it anyway...

I'm surprised you're not being offered Yellow Tail. On an Italian cruise ship I was once offered it as a "great Australian wine". I told the waiter it was ship.

Can confirm it's Rising Bad Earth LDR have had it before. It's a cracking wine, highly recommend it for the price. The winemaker is Anthony Fikkers who used to work at Giant Steps so there's a bit of similarity there.

Tried the First XI 2008 CS tonight. Really quite tasty. Middle hasn't fallen out of it yet, still has a bit of dark berry and some nice mature notes to it.

No idea how a good one from a good year tastes but for mine it's well worth the $20/btl I paid.

Would love to hear others' views

I have opened one - ullage was very low, the cork crumbled and it smells and tastes like it is on its way to vinegar. I’ll give it an hour and report back if it improves, but I think I’ll be testing their refund policy

Hmmm….they accepted my cancellation request so I guess I’ll never know now. I still have too much wine!

Hmmm... sounds like a much worse one than mine!

The cork on mine was a bit brittle but hadn't been breached.

Wonder if the consignment they're flogging has had some heat or poor storage.
