Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

This isn't from Sydney. It's from the Hunter Valley, specifically Pokolbin. The Hunter Valley is one of the preeminent wine regions in Australia.

Mount Pleasant have a history of making quality wines (over 100 years). Their Maurice O'Shea Shiraz is world class (only made in the greatest years). The Phillip is towards their bottem end, but fair value at OP's price.
Hmmm... I was being just a little provocative. I do love Hunter semillon but have been always been highly suspicious of its claims to good reds, wondering if they are just tinged somewhat with wishful Sydney parochialism. Am very open to bring convinced, but haven't yet found much... The Lake's Folly I've tried has never lived up to it's rep and price, imho. Maybe I need to try some of this here Maurice O'Shea.

Tyrrell's cleanskin Shiraz 2022, 130 including shipping.
This wine was sourced from a single block on the Estate, planted in 1998, on a red ridge on the Western boundary of the property just above Johnno’s.

The wine was matured in older French oak casks (2,700L) for 10 months before bottling in early January 2023.

I can't find out this wine. Maybe it makes for cleanskin?

Does anyone want to share 6 bottles in Sydney's western suburb?

I'm not sure the top end stuff stacks up against other regions, but you can often find reasonably priced hunter shiraz that's good quality. It's different to other regions - more spice in particular - the Philip at $15 is a good example, but there are quite a few others out there. I'm quite partial to the brokenwood shiraz which I find age nicely

I would also highly recommend Mount Pleasant Old Paddock & Old Hill Shiraz and Petersons Back Block Shiraz

The top end absolutely stacks up for me but you need to enjoy am earthier medium bodied style.

Has anyone tried the Maverick Wines 'The Maverick' Shiraz Cab? Seems to get good ratings, and TWC currently have the 2020 as a mystery deal. Obviously the RRP is ridiculous, but not sure if might be an ok deal at $79 (minus a little cashback):

TWC also has the Jack Mann 2019 on sale for $88 (cheaper than cellarone). And free shipping sitewide (no minimum spend).

I haven't tried that one in particular but had Maverick Wines in the past. Ridiculously overpriced and even at the discounted price I would be wary. Personally if $79 were burning a hole in my pocket and I was after Shiraz Cab - I would grab a highly regarded and well reviewed 2020 Penfolds bin 389 wine when on special at Vintage Cellars.

Apparently Coles/Liquorland has 20% off for Valentines Day, I think with a max discount of $50.

Just wondered do you guys have any idea how to order the clearance item online at BWS at clearance price? I tried to add the following item to cart but it just kept showing $50 /b. Thanks.

yup. this one too
The Langi is a very good wine as rule. I haven't had the 2011 but I wouldn't buy it, even at that price, just based on the vintage. 2011 was a very bad (wet) year for Vic & SA (among others). Generally poor quality and generally poor ageing profile. Hard to find much in the way of reviews for this vintage which always worries me.

May be a good buy but personally I'd want to try it first.

Not my experience at all. Whilst 2011 is generally acknowledged as not a great year, it's not correct to state it was universally 'very bad'. It's also the case that it wasn't regarded as bad in all parts of Australia. Check the Hunter Valley, for example. Most just see the bad ratings for that year and jump on board the derision train without understanding how things actually work.

I've had many excellent 2011 aged wines (including from South Australia) and have no doubt that this will continue.
