I assume you're talking about southern Aus only, as that heirachy wouldn't apply to WA or Hunter IMHO

Can't speak to Hunter but WA is generally awesome and I've had far too little.

I have had a lot of 2009 south ozzie wines and they are very good. Whilst I am late into this one, didn't they say 2012 was a best in the last decade affair?

For SA? Then 2010 possibly slightly better than 2012, but only time will tell.
For Hunter 2013/2014 much better than 2010 or 2012.
For WA, every recent year has been excellent

For those who love a BIG Barossa Grenache, the Maverick Ahrens Creek 2012 is available thru winemarket ebay for $26.53/btl delivered in a sixer (use code 'CELLAR' to knock 20% off). At 15.5% there's no denying it's a big wine, but its a graceful one, and the finish is loooooonnngg. I can't recall other flavour profiles right now, but remember being very impressed even though I tend to steer away from big alcohol wines. This does have a little alcohol heat (that said, decanting this and putting it in the fridge for 15-20 mins to knock a couple of degrees off makes a noticeable difference), but doesn't detract in my books.

Halliday's 92 has a bet each way: " Lays down multiple challenges: its opulence, its alcohol, its variety and its price. The heat engendered by the alcohol is the issue, not so much the other facets of this massively powerful, old vine grenache. The jury is likely to be out for a considerable time."

I picked up case of this back in June for about $32 a bottle, and have lined up for another at this new price. $150-$180 at full retail is a no go, but I'd be comfortable paying up to $50 for this so it's a steal in my books. Drinking nicely now and easily for another 5 years or more. Cork closure.

Not sure what I'll choose for myself yet, or even if I'll buy anything after the Langton's deal expenditure, but this post on OzBargain has given me a few cheaper ideas - my stock of white quaffers is low so the Seppelt Jaluka Chardonnay might be a goer...

I've had two or three bottles over the last few years, but stopped buying because the label used to explicitly state '30 year old' but somewhat sneakily they have now relabelled it as 'xx_o'. Now I know that even having '30 year old' is no absolute guarantee of age, but any company that jigs their labels to obscure a claim must do so knowing something about whether it still fulfils that claim or not...

... that said, it's a lovely drop (full of nutty rancio characters from memory, but lighter somehow than a Tawny). It bears little resemblance texturally in my books to Spanish PX, and not quite the same richness. But for $20 it's definitely worth grabbing a bottle to see if its something you're into. It's nowhere near a bad drop...

My local store run out of stock as well while I was looking for a voucher to finalise payment so had to look further from the city to find stores with stock.
