Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I was meaning with the content (or, should I say, the lack thereof);).

Ahh...no, that wasn't an issue either. Watched episode 2, series 2 of the original House of Cards. Only disappointing thing was given its from circa early 90s, the 4:3 aspect ratio didn't feel my nice new TV :)

Not a kardashian fan? ;)

Who . (And you can keep your vicarious urges to yourself, Cynicor ;)).

I never watch commercial TV and very limited and selectively the ABC. Put it this way: if the big flat-screen TV I bought for $100 from an acquaintance who must have the latest blows up, I won't bother replacing it.

Any idea on what this is? I was sent the below from WA Cleanskin Cellars who normally buy surplus wine that would normally get branded and labelled in the winery and sell them off as cleanskins. The below is by far the highest price original wine i have seen from them

A $450/bottle Barossa Shiraz, thats got me stumped already. Its a lot of money to spend on a cleanskin blind but it could also be something special

About The Wine!

Handpicked from selected A-grade vineyards with low yielding Shiraz vines in the Barossa Valley this wine is fermented in new American and French oak barrels for a period of 26 months.

A second term of oak maturation of up to 6 months in two year old oak is used to finely balance the rich fruits and great depth of this wine. To ensure further quality control once in bottle this wine has been carefully cellared under optimum conditions.

The magnificent wine displays gorgeous blackberry, black cherry and white pepper complimented by chocolate and mocha coffee overtones.

The complexity of fruit is matched with tannin of the finest grain and a mouth feel that words simply cannot describe. This superb wine will cellar well for 15 years.

The winery has been rated a perfect 5 Stars by James Halliday in his wine companion, and the previous 2008 Vintage received 94/100 points from Mr Halliday.

Could be Amadio Misura 800. The $450 price is a bit of a stretch and appears to come from Amadio's website. Halliday has the 2008 listed at $130.

Well that didnt take long... I think you're right, it also explains why a wine with such a high RRP is selling for so little. I will pass but i must say i'm curious

rawlax - I would probably want to taste it... $450 RRP is quite high.

First time heard of Amadio wines.
However the Misura 800 is "hand wrapped and laid down to mature in its hand crafted wooden box". The box looks luxurious.
Wonder whether the cleanskin comes in the timber box embossed with the winery name. In this case no longer cleanskin.

Exactly. If i was able to pin it down as something with a bit of reputation (Torbreck Runrig or something of a similar ilk) then i would take a blind punt, with this however theres no chance.

Reviews sound decent but i doubt they would sell a single bottle at the $450 RRP

Looking at Amadio site indicates that it leans towards export particularly China. Hence my lack of knowledge of Amadio wines.
Notice the number "8" in branding, Misura 800, 8 Immortals (with dragon).

It is worth a punt only with it comes with the hand crafted timber case.

This Amadio cleanskin does not comes in the hand crafted timber box.

Samsung showed up today. Annoyingly... It's got a heap of stuffed pixels (a big purple line down the screen). Wonder how easy a replacement will be....

Samsung are known for their good dead pixel policy.

Definitely got a faulty TV, mine works well.
I suspect it won't be easy to replace as its a discontinued model AFAIK.
Maybe WB have some leftovers in their stock.

Hmm that's a bit annoying.

I guess a few calls are in order tomorrow.

Might score a new model... Probably not

Got an email from Cracka today advertising a 2012 WA Malbec:

"2012 Mystery Premium Malbec

Happy Malbec World Day! Today is the annual celebration of all things Malbec, and naturally we are getting in on the act with a beauty from WA! This Malbec is a bit of a classic really, crafted by a five star rated winery with a real bent for Malbec. A meaty, savoury red with great tannins and berry fruit, this even scored 93 from notorious hard marker Jeremy Oliver! A great example of what Aussie Malbec can do.

RRP: $35.00/Bottle
Our Price: $17.50/Bottle"

It's likely this is the 2012 Ferngrove Orchid King Malbec. I visited Ferngrove last year and was impressed with their wines and would recommend the wine. My problem, though, is this:

At this URL https://www.crackawines.com.au/product/2012-mystery-premium-malbec Cracka says that the wine has a RRP of $35 and a Cracka Rating of 5/5.

But at this URL https://www.crackawines.com.au/product/2012-ferngrove-orchid-king-malbec Cracka says that the wine has a RRP of $32 and a Cracka Rating of 4/5.

I'm reasonably confident that my guess is correct (http://www.ferngrove.com.au/index.p...yout=productdetails&productId=1092&Itemid=102) - so why the misleading and deceptive description from Cracka? How can they get it so wrong? Is it deliberate or just incompetence?

I think you are correct it's 2012 Ferngrove Orchid King Malbec. JO score of 93 and similar description of "Intense black plum and five spice with lashings of chocolate".
Normally when it's on "Mystery" it's not available direct. Maybe that's why the deception, to make it not so directly linked.

I am thinking of https://www.crackawines.com.au/search/?&q=mystery flagship mclaren vale shiraz&page=1 for $29.99 from $70
which I think is Penny's Hill Footprint. Any thoughts?
