Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Any thoughts on this? FYI 4 secret deals released by McWilliams today

Secret 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (12) | McWilliam's Cellar Door

Very little to go on and email is obscure. Says RRP $290 for a case but then also says $10 per bottle, save 58%, which does not equate to $24.17 per bottle (290/12).

Thanks!

The Cab Sav and Shiraz might both be Appellation Hilltops (Store | McWilliam's Cellar Door). The ratings seem to match, but its a hard to be certain given the lack of details.

How so, the savings ($14.17) is 58.6% of the RRP ($24.17)? Ignoring rounding looks right to me.

You're right, my maths brain was on holidays! Redacting original post. So we're just back to "what's the wine"?

Wanted some cab sav anyway so ordered - let's see what I get! Pricing matches the Evans & Tate Margaret River Cab Sav, but only 2010 listed on the site.

Did anyone order the Mystery Wine pack from Dans for the chance to win a bottle of Grange?

Not me though tempted.
It's a lottery with the mysteries.
Maybe much better to buy lotto. :)
But then again one gets to drink but not lotto. :)

Lottery? May be a bit of a mystery, though with the information provided by Dan's it's less of a mystery:

"Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
2013 Barossa Shiraz — 95 Dan Murphy's wine panel points
2013 Barossa Shiraz — 96 Dan Murphy's wine panel points
2011 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
2010 Bordeaux
2012 McLaren Vale Shiraz — 94 James Halliday points"

I was willing to take a risk for the chance at the Grange.

Langtons has better odds - 12 pack for $600 with 1 in 10 having a bottle of Grange.

DanFurphy's $99 for a chance to win 1 of 10 Grange
Langton's $600 for 1 in 10 chance of Grange

Not much difference, just like buying more tickets in a raffles draw. The attraction is the Grange and what is the cost? Possible $600 plus.
I agree with TomVexille. Just pay for the Grange, a sure winner.

But then the carrot is the Grange, which brought down the NSW Premier. ;)

The difference is that Dans might sell 10,000 mystery packs, so you have 1 in 1000 chance of Grange - the more packs they sell, the worse your odds get. The Langtons offer has fixed odds - 1 in 10. Plus you get $600 bucks of nice wine (I scored Diana Madeline, Mount Mary Quintet, Dead Arm etc.)

But no Grange. If it's really Grange you want just get it. Grange 2008 $680
No doubt at least one is "branded", but how many are also ran?

I'm much happier spending $99 and not getting Grange than spending $600 and not getting Grange...

Very true, the Grange is the bonus.
But then if you decide to increase your chance 10-fold of landing the Grange you would (at worst) end up with 60 bottles of 95 points wines.

No - I want nice wine - getting the Grange is a bonus. Just pointing out that if you want to "play lotto", there's games out there with better odds than the DM deal.

In terms of branded vs. non-branded, are you talking about the Langton's box? I can give you a list of everything I got in this year's box if you like.

Kindly reveal what's in Langton's goody box. When tired of Vinomofo offerings might consider a punt.

Putting on my amateur fundraising hat.

Dan Murphy's $99 mystery with a chance to win 1 of 10 Grange.
>> 10% ($10) goes towards Grange purchase and $89 for the Mystery case.
>> needs to sell at least 600 cases. Not difficult.
>> $15/bottle to fill case - easily done

Langton's $600 with 1 in 10 chance of winning a Grange
>> 10% ($60) goes towards Grange purchase $540 for the mystery box.
>> Looks about right for that 1 out of 10 purchase will get a Grange.
