Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Vintage Cellars have the Seppelt Chalambar shiraz 2005 back again. $22.99 in 6 pack. Current vintage is $17.90 on VM.

I saw that. Care to comment on what it's like? I assume the fact that you mention it, it's decent, but I seem to recall that the current vintage is getting rave reviews and I don't remember this happening before. I haven't drank it in years.

In my view there are very few bad Chalambar years but 2013 from all reports is stellar so Id be buying that as a preference.

Got an email from Cracka today advertising a 2012 WA Malbec:

"2012 Mystery Premium Malbec

Happy Malbec World Day! Today is the annual celebration of all things Malbec, and naturally we are getting in on the act with a beauty from WA! This Malbec is a bit of a classic really, crafted by a five star rated winery with a real bent for Malbec. A meaty, savoury red with great tannins and berry fruit, this even scored 93 from notorious hard marker Jeremy Oliver! A great example of what Aussie Malbec can do.

RRP: $35.00/Bottle
Our Price: $17.50/Bottle"

It's likely this is the 2012 Ferngrove Orchid King Malbec. I visited Ferngrove last year and was impressed with their wines and would recommend the wine. My problem, though, is this:

Received a bottle of this via a swap I did last week. Consumed last night. Impressed. I'd recommend it to anyone - if there's any left!

ENDS TONIGHT!

Knowing Cracka, offer will still be around and at the same price tomorrow and thereafter.
Very bad practice, statement of ending certain days and then still available thereafter. Not only that but same everything.
My experience with Penny's Hill Footprint.
So I wouldn't rush.

I hadn't noticed that before.

Tried another 05 on Saturday night. It's a good reliable drink and probably at its peak now. Think good quaffer and you won't be disappointed. For those that don't have a cellar it gives the opportunity to try a ten year old wine at a reasonable price. More recent vintages will obviously be fruitier! A little variety however can be good.

DM currently has the Seppelt Chalambar shiraz (showing 2012 vintage) for $16.45 in any six - $17.90 for 2013 vintage on VM and also the Essenze Flagship pinot noir 2010 for $19.90 per bottle delivery only (previously $119.90/6 under the secret selection label).

The EsseNZe is coming up unavailable for me....again! Bought the Damkeeper recently at the same price. When last tried there were only 2 bottles of the Flagship which wasn't worth shipping. Do you still see it?

Dan's aren't good at updating the vintages/having accurate vintages, so there's a good chance you'll get 2013 at the same price. For current vintages (i.e. Not cellar release), Dan's often have two vintages.

From Cracka email today:

"We love this wine. Love. It's just a classic cool climate South Australian Shiraz, from a very famous maker. Made by a real heavyweight of the wine world - a household name even - this is a red wine built to live for decades. Decades! Why are we selling it as mystery wine you ask? Because there is no way the winery would ever let this star be let out for such a low price. I mean $32.99, for this? Bloody hell that is good value drinking! You'll be stoked when it arrives on your doorstep...."

This was on in February and identified by jasonking as the Wynns V & A Lane. Despite what the blurb says it's $29.99, not $32.99.

Did anyone get it? Looking for confirmation that it is the Wynns.

I received that too. No thanks. I would never pay $700 for a bottle of wine, let alone a price inflated new world wine.

I agree; you can get a case or two of very good wine for $700. Though I did pay $700 for a single bottle in a restaurant a few years ago, but that was a special occasion (21st birthday meal - wine was the same age as the birthday girl).

Lots of people do.

The amount you spend on any wine is of course dependent on your wine budget. Just because a wine is priced at $700 does not mean it is over valued. Price is set, in part, by demand.

On the theme of wine the age of children. I am looking to.get 2x bottles for each of my children 's birth years being '08, 10 and 12. I am aiming around $100 per bottle and aim to cellar 20 years. Currently St Henri is frontrunner. Any advice appreciated.

I certainly would if I had a 200K+ a year job, and many do in this country!
