McLaren Vale blend of 48% grenache, 45% shiraz, 7% sagrantino. Mitolo hasn’t exactly rocked my boat of late but this is a release worth championing.

Tasting Notes

It feels fluid. It’s exquisitely well structured. It shows herbs and fruits and balance in good measure, and it floats out through the finish as if nothing in the world could stop it. It’s not heavy but it’s not light; it’s berried and ripe but it’s not sweet. In short, Mitolo nailed this one. It’s a better drink and wine than many of its higher-priced offerings.

"t’s a better drink and wine than many of its higher-priced offerings."

$14.52 after CR and WC...worth the punt for a 93 and 96 pointer..I.m in

Halliday and Tony Keys seem to think so.

Sorely tempted after ringing VM and sending the Basham's Beach Temp back to its origin, funny how understated CM's review is compared to Mr Halliday, I honestly wouldn't think they're describing the same wine!

Really? I got that they were both pretty keen on it. Between you and I W&D I'm willing to bet that this is very good indeed.

I was also going to pull the trigger (altho' i need more wine like a whole in the head) but Mike Bennie gave it 87 and a bit of kicking on TWF earlier this year.

Sorry, I probaly didn't make that very clear, what I meant was that CM's description made the wine sound refined, elegant, "It feels fluid. It’s exquisitely well structured. It shows herbs and fruits and balance in good measure, and it floats out through the finish as if nothing in the world could stop it."
Whereas Halliday says "
No one will go breaking the heart of cherry-plum flavour, the flash of herbs, the whispers of smoky oak here; tannin simply won't allow it. There are big ropes of the stuff wrapped firm around the hull of fruit. It's certainly not a wine for everyone, but there's an argument to say this is quite monumental." Even Tony Keys seems to concur with Halliday's comments " Dark and deep on the nose, the wine sits brooding at the front of the palate before majestically unfurling as it journeys. Flavours are immense, even intense, at points. Just hold it in the mouth and the experience will reward the buying of the wine." Elegant or massive it still sounds like a good punt, perhaps the "iron fist in the velvet glove" analogy!

Noticed this morning Amex have a new offer for "Online retailer", spend $60 get $30 credit. Two retailers that may interest those here are Cracka and Boccaccio Cellars.
Might be good to combine with a code.
Does anyone know if you can split a Cracka payment?

Pretty sure they do gift cards

It's a shame that the Shadrach isn't available this week. Any other deals on there worth looking at?

Cellarmaster is offering 25% off all International wines and free shipping with the code INTERNATIONAL, credit to Ozbargain.

Keep in mind NZ is technically International, not another state of Australia. Nothing jumps out at me as being particularly good value on the site in terms of International wines, but tastes vary.

Not ideal, but might be some bargains to be found.

I absolutely don't want to start a conversation about their relative merits as a charity, but in case anyone was going to donate money to Oxfam anyway, I notice that they are in this deal too. If you donate, you can name your amount (so, $60, obviously) and it's tax deductible on top of that. So - and I reiterate, if you were planning on giving anyway - that would make it incredible value. Say you can do 3 transactions on 3 separate cards, that's $90 (Edit: not $180 as originally written - but it still doesn't suck) to spend on wine anywhere you want, $180 in Oxfam's coffers, and a tax refund to come. Just a thought.
