Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

The sales pitch is

"This premium six pack has just been released. The wines together can currently be bought through Dan Murphy's and a couple other retailers for well over $1,100 - indeed, the Astralis and RunRig alone are $759.88 together from Dan Murphy's.

The six pack is $595, free delivery. Please contact ASAP if this interests you. It won't last long as only 90 have been put together."

And who's offering it?

Would you say this is a good deal at $595 for the six?

06 Odyssey
06 Meshach
06 Runrig
06 Astralis
06 Freedom 1843
06 The Tally

Not bad, not great. Apart from the Runrig & Astralis most of these can be had for less than $100 (some significantly less).

Much less than $100? Retail?

Certainly I've scored some $50/60/70 Tally/Meshach/Odyssey, but it's usually been via the secondary market.

Yeah, usually via Langton's auctions, but also the occasional secret offer or cashback with CR / wish card.

Anyways, there's 9.6% cashback via CashRewards for Langtons. Brings the price down to ~$540. If you price the Astralis @ $225 and the Run Rig @ $175, then the last 4 bottles are costing you $35 each.

I doubt you'd be able to buy that selection of bottles, retail, at the $400.

$400 would be closer to the right price for me.

Hi Dr Ralph. I'm genuinely intrigued how you could source these collectively for $400. You must have some amazing sources. Are you talking buy now retail or the secondary auction market? I have been bidding on the RunRig and Australis and they seem to be regularly going well over what I'm prepared to pay for them / what I can get them for when buying through these Langtons bundles.

Any pointers would be greatly received, as I'm looking at organising a fine wine dinner to include the likes of these kind of wines.

Many thanks in advance. Wozza

Secondary market - privately available. I doubt you could get all of these in the buy now retail market anywhere near $400 (without some special deal).

I abhor paying too much for wine. And $595 is definitely too much. $595 less a $150 Langtons AMEX cashback (if you have any) + available cash rewards might get you close to a decent price though.

The RunRig and Astralis are what makes the deal seductive; but there is nothing wrong with the quality of the other wines.

Getting this selection of bottles for $540 would be very difficult, which is why it is a good deal. It just didn't strike me as a great deal. YMMV.

Just got an SMS from Cracka Wines:

To help make this Christmas a Cracka, here is my personal gift to you. Dean Taylor, CEO.www.crackawines.com.au/xmaswine T&C's apply

So I get $50 discount when I spend at least $149 - presume other will get this as well. Not a bad saving off the already discounted price.

The 2014 Naked Vine Marlborough Pinot Noir interests me + a couple of others.

Yes. Same about 5 mins ago.

Probably get one of these a month from Cracka.

Amex really are trying to send me broke throwing this out after the VM deals:'( AMEX connect wine direct offer

Just noticed this offer for a free bottle of 2014 Pertaringa The Yeoman Shiraz with any purchase of $400 or more from WD. I needed some good bubbles and never shy away from a solid red offer, so I just used the code CONNECT250 to get the two packs below. Might even go again as there seems to be no limit to the amount of uses. I wonder if it will tie in with the 30% off sale they have around Xmas time? I don't really anticipate that the Pertaringa Yeoman will be as exquisite as a $250 price point suggests, but to have a crack at one for free? Sure, I'll bite! The secret sparkling dozen is the Tomich M Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir which is a bit of a winner, I grabbed some from the cellar door last time I visited the Hills. Have not tried a few of the reds in the pack, but there are some decent names there and I have been waiting to get my hands on the 2015 Massena 11th Hour Shiraz, so if it is any good, I'll be stocking up when 30% off is on!

Red Rendezvous at the 11th Hour & Tomich M Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir dozen = Total cost $419 vs total RRP $1384 so just a touch under 70% off. That's what I got, hopefully thats Christmas bubbles and reds sorted, now some things for the cellar! I was thinking of pulling the trigger on the champagne pack below and using the code again to get 2 bottles total of the Yeoman, but I have only tasted one of the Champagne, if anyone can shed some light on them for me, that would be much appreciated.

6x Champagne and a $250 Shiraz
