Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

What's the best way to get discount code or other for DM? I'm member. Looking to buy Wynn's Shiraz (white labelled) $15 @6 rate heard it could be ok to cellar. Love to hear of any cheaper to very budget Reds that would improve with time. Is there a thread for budget cellaring ideas?

Wynns Black Label Cab Sav 2014 is the main one that springs to mind for cellaring and can be purchased for $20-30 depending on timing and discounts. The cheaper wynns could cellar for a while but probably won't improve as such. Similar with the Penfolds Koonunga range.

Langtons is a good place to get decent wine that you can cellar, at good prices. Dan's etc, you're usually looking at the $30+ like St Hugo, Katnook, etc.

Some retailers sell the latest vintages ahead of time, which can make decent purchases if you're prepared to lay them down for a year or two

I can't recall the last Dan Murphy's discount code - they're pretty rare, if at all. However you can get about 12% off everyday:
a) Go to www.cashrewards.com.au and buy a Woolworths WISH e-giftcard at 5% off
b) Now use the www.cashrewards.com.au website to go to Dan Murphys, and make your purchase - you'll usually get about 7% cashback in 90 days - which you can transfer to your regular savings/transaction account once you've accumulated a minimum of $5

If you are not a CashRewards member DA101 - go to the Referral section of AFF and use a members referral link - both you and the member get a small amount IIRC

I've found the best way to kick start your cellar collection is pick up some already cellared bottles from
Uncle Dan's annual clearance.

Feel free to create your own thread. Budget cellaring is a fun game, tho most on this forum seem to be seeking the more higher end stuff.
Bleasedale and Tuesner variants are the best price/cellaring I've seen. can pickup something sub $17 and apparently has legs for 10+ years.

For sub 10 years and $15 and under, Metala is often $10, Wynns White and the Siding often go sub $15, Mike Press Shiraz and Cab Sauv at Kemeneys/Winestar is currently ~$13

Yeah, bleasdale stuff is great. I'm a big fan of their Frank Potts as well

How are you planning on cellaring the wines if I may ask? Secondly, are you sure you actually prefer aged wine to younger wine? Ie, whether an aged wine is "improved" compared to a younger version of it is subjective. Some people just don't like the tertiary aromas and flavours. Finally, cheap red wine isn't likely to age well.

As for cheap wines for cellaring, whites are where its going to be at. Think Riesling, Semillon, Chenin Blanc and Marsanne.

Oh under $10. Now I can't buy it. Dam .Because every time I was to drink it I'd go I've been ripped. It so hard to find a cheap Red to buy and cellar. Or is it just me!

Just be patient - deals come around all the time.

What's your budget, and what's your cellaring timeframe (e.g. how old do you want the wine to be when you drink it)? For example, you could buy a 2015 now, but it might be worth paying a bit more to buy a 2010, if you want to drink it at the 10 year mark.

I have MWG $50 discount code, must use for a transaction greater than $149, who wants? PM me. due 07/04.

updated: Someone already took it.

I was looking at the 2011 Tyrrell's Stevens Vineyard Semillon Museum Release $26.99/6 ($161.94) or $18.66 + shipping. Any opinions?
Recommendations for a shiraz?

BWS currently have 25% off wine (min 6 bottles). Combine with Wish Cards and Cash Rewards and there are some absolute bargains there. YMMV on your local store though.

Am considering using MWG $50 voucher on the Alpha Crucis 2014 Shiraz offer bring the cost down to $33 a bottle. However I have just noticed that the wines are claimed to be cellarable until 2034.

Question is - What will they be like in the next 3-4 years?
