Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I'm ashamed to say that I caved and pulled the trigger on the Farnese Edizione Cinque Autoctoni 16 - it came to about $32 a bottle. I've had a few of these before (not this "vintage") and they have always been huge crowd pleasers, even stood up against Mount Mary Quintet in a five varietal tasting.

Previous vintages have been serious gear, no subtlety, all bombast. The perfect wine to bring out to wipe the self-satisfied grin of that guy who always brings a Zinfandell to blow everyone's palate away.

Let's just hope Cracka can actually deliver it.
Got mine on Monday,so quick!, do you know how long these can cellar for?

The oldest I've drunk them is 5 years; I drank edition 12 (2011) in 2016 and it had started to display secondary characteristics. Apparently they can go up to ten years according to the producer, but it's definitely a drink-now style.

dont think anybody has mentioned Dan has 2008 Noble One for $28 a bottle. Decent buy?

Not bad at all. I paid $27 on release, so if it's a wine you like, then worth purchasing IMHO.

This style is very much an individual preference and if you haven't tried one then certainly should. Considered at the top of ausie botrytis styles. Good overall reviews however appears to have reached its peak so not likely to be one for the cellar.

Is there a rule of thumb drink by date for the Noble ones? I have a number of ‘07 I picked up cheap from BWS and have decided sticky’s aren’t really me....

10 years.

Of course some will go for a lot longer, but some even shorter. There's a definite change in the flavour by 10 years though.

Same as most wines...its all about balance. Don't want the acid to die and it becomes flabby. Jeremy Oliver says the drinking window for the '07 is 2015 to 2019+.

Cheers, just put this to use for a couple of "secret" cases of Pertaringa Over the Top shiraz. Came to around $14/bottle in the end, which seems pretty tidy - I think I paid $18/bottle for the previous vintage via Vinomofo.

Just did the same. I had $25 credit sitting in account, which made it even sweater. I've found the 2015 vintage Over the Top quite good.
