Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Who's system? Ive used giftcard + code with all my CM transactions.

Its through SmartSpending. I didnt want to purchase the gift card and then be stuck with it if I couldnt double dip on the gift card discount and the code. Ended up going through CR for 4.9%. Hopefully that gets approved

It’s always worked for me - voucher, gift card and cash rewards combo

LECONFIELD Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra 2017

Just a heads up, these have been going at auction for between $13 and $15 a bottle for the last 10 days.

LECONFIELD Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra 2017 | Langton's Fine Wines

I've been looking for discounted 2017 Leconfield Cab Franc. Anyone seen any deals for this?
Anyone who missed this and is still interested, Kemeny's have it at $17 + shipping as a "Hidden Label"

In case anyone was eyeing off the Star Lane shiraz 2017, my recommendation is to avoid. It's seems on the green side to me, lots of cracked pepper, menthol, chinese herb shop on the nose. It's like drinking sticks and stones. Barely drinkable. Does have length and some attractive raspberry notes on airing. Maybe It will be better tomorrow?

tl;dr needs cellar time or a lot of airing.

I must eat (drink?) my words, which were spoken in haste and with insufficient airing time. Overnight the fruit has risen like Lazarus, and the over stalkiness + other cool climate characteristics have receded into the background. Now, it is just lean, instead of mean, mineral, instead of stony, and the stalkiness lends structure instead of stripping away the inside of your mouth. An interesting wine, I am not going to buy much more but will upgrade it to buy 2 as an experiment for the cellar.

Just remember that this is NOT the same wine. Kemeny's hidden labels come from a different source to the wine marketed under the real label.

For those that have followed Kemeny's Hidden Labels they would know that Leconfield wines have featured every year for the last decade.

My advice is to wait. This wine is often discounted. We've seen it under $10 within the last 2 years (a stacked deal). $13 to $15 is reasonably common.

Yes, I found the Pokolbin Hills Semillon fairly bland tbh.

Did anyone else pick any up and had an opportunity to try? The 2019 vintage just got a pretty favourable review/score from GW on The Wine Front and I'd love to hear if there is an opposing view (not that I don't trust you AFAFA, i just want it to be good! 😅)

To be honest I don't know much about cellaring rieslings and semillons. I look for the ones with high acid, good length, and nice array of flavours, and of course go by recommendations from other people/critics/winemakers. I think the Tyrrell's tasting note is telling:

Given the pedigree of this single vineyard, and the great 2017 vintage, this wine will cellar for many years to come but will be best drinking immediately

Yep and about $61 after Gift/SB depending on how SB tracks - limit to 6 with 1st purchase - I need to check cellar tonight to see if I go for another lick.

Edit - and totally OT - the only redeeming feature of flying J MEL-SIN-ZRH on Sep 02 when Saver F/R not available is that I get to drown myself in CH - could be a lot worse huh? And served by the SQ Angels to boot - prolly where I would choose to pass on if one did actually get a choice - but as I said totally OT.
