Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Buying old wines at auction is huge risk because these online merchants can’t guarantee how they were kept all these years. I bought (and sold myself) quite a few but after getting too many bottles that were off (mostly from the 90s) I’m trying to avoid auctions for old wines, newer ones should be mostly fine.

Agree. Definitely increased level of risk with auction. But over 2000 bottles purchased this way in the last 20 years and less than 0.1% that I wasn't happy with.

The 1999 d'Arenberg I had was spectacular.

couple of months ago my friend brings me Ausone 03, bass Philip reserve 03, both are from Langtons auction. Ausone is fake (the cork is bad quality and doesn't have the name printed on it, it tastes like $30 Bordeaux), bp is not keeping in good condition (taste matured, but lack of layers and complexity). As I heard and tried from other friends' wine from Langton's auction, they are all not in good condition.

I won't buy any wines from the auction. I will prefer to buy from winery, although they are 20% price higher than DM, they are the best condition.

If that cork was from the Ausone it seems wrong on every level, including way too much penetration for the age. I know much older Bordeaux can have strange or unbranded corks through negociant bottling but that stopped in the 70s (?) Label looks fine, although could be a refilled and recorded authentic bottle.

Has your friend taken this any further? This would not have been an insignificant fraudulent sale.

With Langtons auction do I have a choice on which CC to pay? If I place a bid and win is it automatically paid for at the end or can I change my cc? I have spend 200 and get $75 back on my card and my wifes.

The payment at the end of the auction is automatic as far as I know. You could set up another account with a second card payment but probably not worth it.

$40 off by using the PayPal Amex offer if you have it (instead of a GC)

Looking like $36 of cashrewards aswell, so around $54pb delivered which equals a Merry Christmas :)

This looks like the Grant Burge Meshach Shiraz 2010.

If so, seems like a good discount on the retail price but I have never tried it. Also, I'm wondering if there are any sales on boxing day and its worth waiting?
It is the Meshach. Been on previously this year, but not at this low a price. $70 is considered a good price to me, so this is tempting. But prices have also been lower than the current $65 and revealed on AFF previously: Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals for example (but search this thread and you will find dozens of references to discounted Meshach). So the $50 mark is not impossible and some patience can get you there. As others have remarked when Meshach deals have been discussed previously, this is a wine that is frequently discounted.

It is a great wine, nevertheless.

And Cashrewards seems to be tracking at full RRP with gift card too will make it under $60 per bottle

Just because it tracks doesn't mean they will pay out. Take screen shots and keep a close watch on this is my advice.

This is the price before WISH card etc? It's frequently around that price. It is a huge discount off the headline price, but given how frequently it's available at large discounts this isn't a great price for me. But if you don't have any, it's probably worth that price.

Closer to $70 is possible and my target price.
Thanks Dr Ralph, will be patient.
@weirluo your patience has been rewarded. Buy now :)

Thanks for advice on keeping a screen shot - let’s hope they keep to the email confirmation
