Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I've found the under $30 price on Teusner MC Sparkling Shiraz 2010 still available when I set my store to Tuggeranong, ACT, but the prices goes up a lot when I ask to ship to my northern ACT address and pickup is not available.

I've created a Parcel Collect address at a local Post Office with the same post code as the Tuggeranong store and DM online allowed me to enter it manually, but I'm not game to complete the order.

Has anyone tried this workaround?

I haven't tried it, but had a similar idea to see if i could bypass the 'regional' postage we get hit with from most shops. (Set up a parcel collect at a metro postcode, and have parcels redirected to my regular parcel collect) I'm just not sure if all places allow redirection. Also with Dan's you would have to specify Aus post, as they use Endevour don't they? From previous user posts that seems to be hit and miss.

Also, a few bonuses floating around at the moment.

thesippery: seems all users were given $30 sippery dollars to their account, but you can also grab another $15 code. Just load up your cart (i added over $200 worth) and the next day you should get an email with a $15 code to "help you complete your order"

Graysonline: (credits to ozb) a $40 voucher is available via a pop up on their homepage to sign-up. The hint is to open the site in incognito mode to get pop-up.

MyWineGuy: Have freeshipping until Christmas, a good time to use any credits you may have on site.

Actually, on that basis a case is 0.02628 cubic metres, which would be 46 boxes :)

However, thanks for identifying this somewhat misleading discrepancy - I'll let them know

Of course, their fine print states:
  • Space sizes may be larger or smaller than quoted. Spaces are not rented by the square metre and rent is not based on square metre measurements.
With their wine storage size categories being:
  • Mini: 18 - 48 Wine Cases.
  • Standard: 48 - 72 Wine Cases
  • Jumbo: 100 - 200 Wine Cases

Went in yesterday to check out the wine lockers at Waterloo, and the 72 case locker was indeed far bigger than the indicative 1.2sqm. Am now a happy renter for the bargain price of $55 p/m for the next 12 months. Curious to see if the price doubles when the renewal comes up 😁

Surprisingly I've never bought anything by auction at Langtons.

a lot of goodies ended at tonights auction, German rieslings. hunter shiraz and semillon, barossa shiraz ( standishs, langmeil, kalleske, turkey flat, kay brothers etc.) great price, a lot of these ended up cheaper than cellar door/retail prices, and you can't found these on a bargain price. there is another one ending on the 24th, if your amex card deals still hasn't expire yet, i strongly recommend you or anyone else with the amex card offer start looking.

I missed tonight's auction, but have had a good look at the auctions ending on the 24th. My conclusion is that the buyers premium is a real kicker.

Best deal I could find would be 4 of the 2009 Shadrach's for $214 (assuming winning bidder at $46), less $50 AMEX offer. Net cost of $41.25 per bottle.

if thats your favourite shiraz then at $41.25 a bottle is a very good price. i bought some turkey flat shiraz 17' lower than $40 and some standish 17' just around $70.

I've stopped looking at Dan Murphy's under wraps and clearance. It's a huge waste of time when the prices/availabilities change at checkout.

Today I saw an under-wraps offer that enticed me - a Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec for $9.90 as opposed to standard Dans pricing of $20.99. And showed availability at my local. I am always intrigued to try aussie usage of malbec, so I bought some and picked it up at Dans half an hour later. It is the Claymore Cabernet Malbec 2018.

I would only ever purchase a pure malbec from an Argentine source, but this blend is very drinkable, and at the price, for something a tad different, I think a great buy. So maybe the Dans under-wraps should not be a tool we discard?

Email from Dan’s advertising 2010 Dead Arm shiraz for $59.90. On the site can’t see it lower than $89. Assume the email is a typo?

Interested to hear your impressions of the Carboot offerings as I looked at most of the ones you purchased, annoyed with myself that I somehow missed the Mouton Cadet Reserve as I love a good Sauternes....

Over the past couple of weeks I've tried all 3 cabernets:
Le Casse Noix Cabernet Sauvignon IGP 2017 (Languedoc, France) : This is ok. I wasn't expecting anything special and wasn't surprised. Nothing wrong with it but no real complexity or anything to catch interest either. BBQ cabernet or mid week quaffer. Would I buy it at retail price? no. Would I buy again at 50% off? No - There's plenty of better value in Australian cabernet at that price

Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 (Sonoma County, USA) : I liked this. A step above the Le Casse Noix. Early drinking style but a reasonable balance between the fruit and acid and tannins.
Would I buy it at retail price? no. Would I buy again at 50% off? Probably not, It'd make more sense at $15 or so.

Silver Palm Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 (California, USA): This was enjoyable. Much bigger wine than the previous 2 and built to last. Full bodied Cabernet nice soft tannins and a medium-long finish.
Drinking well now but probably better in 5 years. Would I buy it at retail price? no. Would I buy again at 50% off? Yes - I'd be happy to have half a dozen lying around in my cellar.

I'll let you know how the Mouton Cadet Reserve goes over Christmas :)

Don’t have many aged Dead Arm left and couldn’t get any under $60 lately. Where and when did you see for $30?
From 2015 – 2019 at Langton's, Cellarmasters, Grays and Dan Murphy's. Some of these opportunities were auctions, some were stacked deals. Aged Dead Arm, Coppermine Road and Ironstone pressings all available at around the $30 mark in that period.

I know in 2015 I got some 1999 for under $20 at auction via Grays.

If you're interested, the 2013 Coppermine Road is still available as an under wraps deal from Dan Murphy's for under $30 a bottle:

Or you can pay $65 a bottle if you prefer:

Hi all,

I know this is about wine deals but i can't found a better place to share this out. Due to the horrible bushfires around Australia, the Adelaide hills area got the worst of it, some winery lost their homes and some lost everything they worked for many years. the link below showed most of the damages and wineries that were affected.

glamadelaide

there are a few ways to help out these wineries inside the link. the most direct way is to buy directly from their website so they can get the most profit and help them through this christmas.

Link didn’t seem to work for me. Try this:

Such a terrible loss for those affected and a worthwhile reason to buy direct

Great post. I’m a big fan of Golding so will take the opportunity to stock up. It’s a beautiful cellar door and they’ve got some really good adelaide hills wines.

Buying old wines at auction is huge risk because these online merchants can’t guarantee how they were kept all these years. I bought (and sold myself) quite a few but after getting too many bottles that were off (mostly from the 90s) I’m trying to avoid auctions for old wines, newer ones should be mostly fine.

Last time I got aged Dead Arm for good price was around four years ago for $45. Obviously one can’t trust any store to keep wines in perfect condition (they most likely don’t) but at least it’s relatively easy to return and refund.
