Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I've been told that DM's stock keeping system at the warehouse doesn't keep track of vintages, half the problem is barcodes and product numbers do not have vintages built in. I've also heard that they are aware of the issue and are looking to fix their system.

I've had issues with being sent an older (inferior) vintage to the current one and was advised by DMs to call them after making the order as they can see which store it's been allocated to and call them to let them know that it has to be [X] vintage. I'm 50/50 on this working so far!

Not sure if the Gemtree Chardy is any good (not a Chardy drinker myself) but have a look at this offer
Spend $120 or more and get a further 15% off with code 15FLASH
IIRC freight free but just in case a free delivery code is FDEL1H

The deal is with Cellarmasters and ends midnight tonight.

Steady - Thank you for the heads up about BWS. I did a drive around a half dozen stores and got some bargains. I was served by a colleague's son at one store who told me that they are deleting a number of lines, hence the crazy prices (and stacked promotions).

Duperrey Premier Cru Brut NV - $50 ($35 in a 6, $33.25 WISH)
Duperrey Brut Rose NV - $27.50 ($19.25 in a 6, $18.29 WISH)
Taittinger Brut Reserve NV - $40 ($28 in a 6, $26.60 WISH)
Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale Brut NV - $30 ($21 in a 6, $19.95 WISH)

The pick for me is the Taittinger, but good prices across the board.

Only some stores are deleting these as stocked items. The price reduction depends on the stock on hand and length of time since it was a deleted item.

A word of warning though - the Taittinger that I had last night had taken a turn for the worse somewhere along its journey. I'm hoping the other bottle I bought isn't similarly tainted.

With the DM's Cellar Release I had a quick glimpse of the prices for 6's of a few of the wines.

From (sometimes faulty) memory...

Koonunga Hill $70 for 6 (if it's the 2010 they have run a similar offer before), Wynns Red Stripe CSM 2010 $99 for 6 & 2008 Wynns Black Label Cab Sav $199 for 6. Those I'm reasonably sure of but not so for the 2006 Wolf Blass Black Label but it was the most expensive of what I saw. Pretty sure these prices were also valid until about the 5th of August & not just on the night.

If this event is anything like the last one, the inventory was very much store dependent and a printed list was handed out on entry to the store.
Prices not published online or elsewhere prior to it.
I'm hoping this event is similar.

My apologies Princess Fiona it appears you are correct that there is a sale for DM members but it just doesn't seem to be advertised anywhere, even the staff didn't seem to know much about it. In my local DM today near where the Cellar Release wines are there was a couple of sheets of paper with some special prices listed, maybe of previous years Cellar Releases??? Finishes on the 5th of August & perhaps the deals don't seem quite as good as in the May sale.

A few of the wines on the list

2008 Barwang Cab Sav & Shiraz $12.90
2008 Wynns Red Stripe CSM $13.90
2009 St Hallett Faith Shiraz $15.90
2008 Chalambar Shiraz $21.90
2008 Chapel Hill Cab Sav & Shiraz $27.90
2008 Mount Langi Cliff Edge $20.90
2006 Lindemans Pyrus $39.90
2005/6 Saltram No1 Shraz $60

For anyone that has access to the TWE Staff, family and friends website, they are currently clearing Coldstream Hills 2013 Sauvignon Blanc for $14 a bottle. RRP of $35 and Dan's sell it for high $20's. My gf also received a $25 off coupon via email, which brings the cost to $10 a bottle for 6! Haven't had it before, but everything suggests it should be a nice wine. It is Oaked fume style.

This is also not the regular discount and is only offered once or twice a year. For most people the overall discount is 12% and this should be used for comparisons, notwithstanding your slightly unique position.
Apologies for posting - but nothing unique about my situation - plenty here buy Wish at -7.5% through Groupon.

Sorry I see Dans wine now back to 7% - was 9% - but Wish through Groupon is 7.5% disc - I still have a bunch of these so disc now 14.5%.

Not really - you're forgetting to take into account "time value of money". Buying $1000 worth of Wish cards at 7.5% discount costs $925 (saving you $75), but holding them for a year (as you recently did) will cost you ~$45 extra on your mortgage (or other foregone investment opportunities), leading to a net saving of only $30 (or 3%).

A better comparison would be to use the standard 5% discount, as it's available to anyone, straight away, and doesn't require locking any money away in non-liquid form.

The best deals take a bit of effort and patience CE but they are worth it. I am back to 5% off Woolies gift cards and I gave the olds my last 5% off Coles gift card.
The 6 Silver Oak Cab Savs turned up in Los Angeles so I am wondering how to get some home.

I did not realise you were all over my spending patterns - please enlighten me how you come to this conclusion - holding them for a year (as you recently did)?
