Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I picked up some at $15 per bottle from liquorland at the clearance sales in June. Have had a few bottles and i just get spikey acidity with not much fruit or oak to balance it out. Don't know if my bottles were mistreated at some stage in their life or if its some mid life funk (the wine, not mine), but i wouldn't pay $15 again for it

Can't remember when I got one but it was part of a bonus deal (I'd have to look up my cellar records) but anyway the wine - yes acid, not much fruit, tonnes of oak. Not one of the better vintages. I wouldn't seek it out to buy, even at that $15 price. Wine was too hard to enjoy.

Thanks Baiden. I think that will do me!!

Anyone had the 2014 Yalumba The Tri-Centenary Grenache? I’m being offered a case of 12 at silly prices. PM me if you are Sydney based and would like to split. I’m only really after a handful.

Anyone know anything about this one:

RRP looks fanciful but at the same time wax dipped cork and 36 months on oak are usually signs someone intended it to be a premium wine.
I've had it a few times courtesy of a friend who somewhat mistakenly thinks GWD is the only online retailer worth dealing with 😐, anyway the good news is that it is a very solid drop, definitely big-boned but not lacking finesse, I would hesitate to recommend at $300 a bottle but it's certainly a good'un at the GWD price...

Seeing these kind of obscure wines being sold at almost 90% discount is why I always thought GWD is a dodgy retailer but they do have some legit bargains sometimes hidden among the usual hyperbole.

Combine with Groupon offer of $5 for $50 GWD credit (minimum spend $99). Personally I haven't bought from GWD.

Wish I found this out earlier, would have been handy for the Glen Eldon Twisted Trunk order from GWD.

I received a triple points email this weekend for Vintage Cellars for an effective 15% off on top of CR

John Boston Session IPA 330mL deliver to my home is 43.88(24btl)
Wynns V&A Lane Cabernet Shiraz 2016 pick up in wentworthville is 38.50

seems to be this

Maybe!

Can also find it for cheaper here Black Market Mystery McLaren Vale Grenache 6 pack if you actually enjoy it. I know the C word is a bit taboo here, but didn't mind the drop at all and it's a good $20 daily drop. That said I do share the sentiment and avoid buying it just out of principle...

Hi

Just wondering whether someone can share the experience with Langton wine broker service. Is it worthwhile or just another company chasing you with their super deals...
I got a voucher with Vintec for them and wonder whether it is worthwhile...

Langton’s broker is handy if you’re interested in auctions. I had good broker once who used to notify me about special value wines coming on auction (she got promoted since), otherwise they mostly send out emails of new stock coming in. Another good thing about Langton’s, they don’t call often and bother like some other online retailers.

Yep, absolutely. I think if you are keen on certain wines, they can also source for you or bid or purchased on your behalf.
They also share a handy notes as they usually taste their wines to see if it's match to your liking.
But many times the offer is similar to you and I can get with their email subscription - so I don't find the recent deals offered to be of benefit.
But I value the relationship and great to have someone who can check and source a particular wine for me.

Happy to recommend or pass on my broker contact to you if interested.

Thanks, this is helpful. I have been " allocated " a broker already.

Besides alerting you to deals on things you say you like, they can also tell you what a langtons mystery wine is. This was useful before I got on this forum! I don't get calls from them as I've instructed them not to. I don't go in for auctions. I've found it a very useful service indeed.

Some interesting conditions on the Groupon offer. 1)To be used in wine bundles - so that could be there bundles rather than what you want to bundle.
2) New customers only - so that rules me out as I purchased the Glen Eldon Twisted Trunk Shiraz
