Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Completely under whelmed by the new month's DM member offers. Looks like the auditors have reviewed the offerings to date and found them to be far too generous.

Dannys today has a #$180 for 6 Wolf Blass Grey labels 2012 AND a free Wolf Blass Black label 2010......they value the black at $108, hence $12 a bot for the Grey.. Having never had a Grey, I really can't comment .

ITS THE CABERNET SHIRAZ version !

doing some research here suggests this is something I need to get n the next hour

I saw it in Herald Sun add about an hour ago - it doe4s exist - I could not see on web site either - but I thought I read in paper 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon OR Shiraz - but I might be wrong.

Edit: 2012 Cabernet Shiraz OR Shiraz - I think.

Unrelated: Tuesday night opened a bottle of Penfolds Bin 28 - Cruiserette and I had a glass each - balance into decanter - polished off balance last night - WOW - unrecognisable from previous night - improved about 500% in a day out of bottle.

Edit Edit: Yes the deal is indeed aliove - no the deal does not appear online - if you want the deal NOW you will need to call Dan's and they will process for you - OR - wait awhile and it should appear online - small hiccup back of house apparently - like someone forgot to load it!

BOOM, to use the terminology from my other main wine buying site ... :-)

I didn't buy this morning, but I did swap that horrible white box pinot for the tassie one.....spent a packet already, and another 180 could get me something from vm.......how do you folk compare q and a lane and this wolf blend? Could be v and a lane by wynns.....must be my Tony Jones infatuation........but which is the better product?

PricePal sent me a reminder for Dans "Iconic Australian Sauvignon Blanc Six Pack & Bonus Lanson Champagne", $89. At $15/bottle the whites are fair quaffing value as they appear to retail around the $20 mark +/- with the Lanson free.

Didn't understand any of that. Are you wading through the case already beefyone?

edit: Ahh, I see the Wynns V&A Lane now...

The Wolf Blass Grey Cab Shiraz is stunningly drinkable. Goes down so easily. I found the V&A needed a lot of air time while the WB was immediately drinkable.

I've checked 3 different stores in the last 2 days and haven't found anything other than the usual specials.

As promised, I popped into my local BWS and politely asked the nice man to price match the label above: the Ata Rangi 13. The polite man politely declined and politely exclaimed that it was an incredible deal he hadn't seen before. He was surprised as he said all deals should be the same all over the country. His only explanation was a special manager deal done by that store.

Oh well. I tried.

Therefore my learned colleagues, BC and woz, the wolf wins the contest ...i guess 8.5 points to 7.25???

I think that is a fair conclusion based on what BlackCat says. I haven't tried the Wolf wines, but I agree with BlackCat on the V&A. It is not an immediate knockout - it's more wife material (gets better with age) than girlfriend material (all fun from the off)!

And, based on Dr Ralph's $70 estimate for the Black Wolf, it would appear the 6 Grey Wolves are around the $18 a bottle range -i.e. very good value for a JH 95 from an excellent label.

I haven't jumped on the deal, as I too am holding out for something more grabbing (especially after outlaying some serous notes on 6 more Diana Madeline's 08).

$70 is what I have paid for it and thought was fair value. The cheapest I'm 90% I recall seeing it for was around $55.

I've now been to 10 BWS stores, still nothing that I thought was good. Interestingly the price of some of the items between the different stores did vary - even though they were all marked down.

Are you buying to drink now? Or drink later?

The WB Grey Label is drinking fine right now. The V&A Lane is in a different bracket and I think this is reflected in the prices you'd pay for them: $25-30 for the WB and $45 or so for the V&A.

The WB Black label is in another bracket again...

With cash back etc its a very good deal (approx $147). However we have plenty of the grey and a bottle of the black so no need to purchase.

Best I can get is the cashback from cashrewards.com.au which is 7% today for red wine + the 7.5% WISH card discount I got from the Groupon purchases earlier this year. At 14.5% total discount this brings it down to $153.90.

Had a look in 2 BWS stores today, would agree that there was not too much to go crazy about. Some specials were 2012 Watershed Senses Cab Mer for $12.50, 2013 Cape Mentelle Trinders Cab Mer $17.50, 2010 Sandalford Estate Shiraz $17 (similar to the FO price) & 2012 Vasse Felix Shiraz (wish it was Cab Sav!) $20.
