Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Must be telephone sales day for wine marketers - have had Langtons, Get Wines Direct, VM and Moss Wood call today. I also called Dan's to try to find out when the 2014 Moss Wood Cab Sav would be in store - apparently they have none on order ATPIT so at least a month away at earliest - I assume they will offer at disc to Moss Wood cellar door? And can get 12% (maybe 17% if BigW get their fingers out) off that so a bit more enticing than $128 less 10% or am I dreaming?

CE

how much did Langtons offer you the Moss Wood 2014 Cab Sav ?

I got an email from broker offering 2014 but not the price in the email..

I've used my last lots of Winestar vouchers on the 2014 Moss Wood (Amex's spend $150 get $50 promo last August). Wished I bought more vouchers back then. Works out to be 29% off for the 6.

Got the MW Wines email for Moss Wood 2014 last Friday, FWIW their price is $115. Obviously would need to add postage if not in Melbourne.

YES MW cellar door price is $128 less 10% member disc + freight 1 doz to MEL $22 = bott price $117.03 del MEL. Langton's $109.50 in 6s - will be $115 as of 9am morrow. Still think I will wait for Dan's.

Edit - decided not to wait - $109.50 incl del to MEL for a doz. As posted above price goes back to $115 as of 9am tomorrow.

I was able to use my referral credit towards 6 of these from Langton's :)

On the subject of Cabernet (that time of year innit) Fuddling Cup 2008 Cab from Geographe, back on Cracka for $14.99 a bottle.

This is a lovely wine IMHO - already aged and drinking very well. A bargain at a quaffer price. Opened my last bottle of the last batch earlier and has convinced me to get another 12. All this young Wynns black label and Xanadu stuff really needs to be laid down for a bit where as this is ready to go.

Ended up getting some of these, and tried one last night. Very enjoyable, and great value for the $10 paid. Not a wow wine, but a well developed MR Cab with some very enjoyable flavours. Slight sediment at the end of the bottle but nothing major.

Thanks for the heads up!

My Cullen Diana and Mosswood were both delivered this week. I didn't wait for a Dans deal so I went direct.Cost a bit more to do this but early delivery is a bit of a plus.

I realise that this may not be available to all, but I have just purchased a 6 pack of the 2013 Spinifex Barossa Esprit Grenache blend (63/21/16% grenache, mataro and cinsaut) for close to $16 a bottle. Given it retails for close to $30 and that I have enjoyed it before I'd recommend it as a buy.

To get to $16 you will need the following:

1) 8% cashrewards
2) Current $25 off cellarmasters Wine Voucher (not hard to come by)
3) Current $120 spend for $20 cash back offer from AMEX.

Even if you used a 5% off WISH card from Woolies instead of the AMEX offer or cellarmasters wine voucher this still comes out as a good offer.

Looks like BWS are deleting lines again or at least the couple of stores in CBR. I've managed to pick up:

2012 Petaluma Coonawarra for $31.50
2011 Peter Lehmann Stonewall Shiraz for $36

Not the greatest vintage (2011 is birth year wine so that's OK) but can't be that bad. Will have a look at the Sydney stores on the weekend.

Bought the last 3 bottles of Boccaccio’s approximately 2-week-old 12-bottle allocation of Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Shiraz Pinot Noir 2014 for $40 :) after unfortunately missing out on their Hoddles Creek Pinot Noir 2016 for $10 due to being mis-placed/priced :( and i don’t generally drink sauvignon blanc but might go back to try Te Mata Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc 2015 for $19.99 given at 95pts by Gary Walsh it's Winefront's equal highest scoring one :)

With the usual 10% off at AusCellardoor (search or pm me for code), both Moss Wood and Cullen Diana are $103.41 delivered in six packs :)

Other bargains there include:

- 95/96pts Ergo Sum Shiraz 2012 $44.91 (singles) (especially for those who like [post=1623951]Giaconda[/post] and Domenica shirazes (Ergo is the latter’s best), being of the former Giaconda Chapoutier collaboration)

- 91-96pt De Bortoli Section A8 Syrah 2012 $29.61 (one 6pk left)

- Yarraloch La Cosette Chardonnay 2014 $22.41 [post=1608206](95pt Affordable Classic - Jeremy Oliver’s Good Wine Guide 2017)[/post]

Sounds like a belter!

I think their essayist got a little overexcited in terms of the Frank Potts "....full-blown Bordeaux blend of 62181163% cabernet sauvignon, malbec, petit verdot, cabernet franc and merlot duly delivers the goods" surely that's over-proof ;)

There is going to be 2500 dozen Moss Wood 2014 released on May 1st that has scored the highest ever score from a wine writer. I think it is to be around $128 a bottle.
Probably a great investment seeing it will be sought after.
My taste buds like Moss Wood and Diana Madeline now that 707 has been priced out.
Warning: This is not financial advice!

Thanks Cove for the heads up. Managed to score 2 dozen but looks like they have sold out ... in such a short period. Only magnums left.

I will do my level best to make both the Diana Madeline and this Mosswood rarer by consuming it with friends.
I will leave investing in wine to others.

I share your sentiments. Mine too will be for consumption only (hopefully sufficiently delayed) and not for investment. Life is way too short! The only problem is that I now need to spend even more money on wine fridge(s). But then there is the Harvey Norman Amex credits to be used.

If you want to read a good drinks list have a read of the list on Ruthschris.com as they have a big offering. Ruth's Chris is a favourite US steakhouse of mine and it is in walking distance for us when we are in California. Last time I was there I had three sample glasses of red and then tried the Robert Mondavi red by the glass and it was pretty good.

Here's the lineup for the cheaper $299 box (average $25/bottle), as I missed out on the $599 boxes this year. Solid lineup without anything too special, but everything's worth ~$25 (maybe some a few bucks less, but a few that are definitely worth more):

Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot 2011
Warrenmang Black Puma Shiraz 2006
Heirloom McLaren Vale Shiraz 2014
Howard Park Leston Vineyard Shiraz 2012
Riposte The Sabre Pinot 2014
MSV Cabernet 2009
Grant Burge Filsell 2014
Vickery Eden Valley Riesling 2016
Giant Steps Chardonnay 2015
Howard Park Chardonnay 2015
Fraser Gallop Paterre Cabernet 2013
Twelftree Grenache 2014
I had the Fraser Gallop 2012 Pa(r)terre Cabernet blended with 3 others varietals actually in March and it was so good so I happily paid late thirtees for another two to put aside. It was stunning. JH gave the 2012 a 96, but who gives a cracker about his scoring anyway. Probably my best this year. I hope the 2013 gives you the same joy. For the value here in this case, suuupurb.
