Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Shopback doesn't exclude champagne both in their fine print and in reality (have bought champagne from them before with 20% SB and got it). Just pulled the trigger on the Krug '04 6-pack at $301ea if the 30% lands (cheapest elsewhere is $400).

Nice! I need to jump on to Shopback. Had a huge order with BWS the other day not paid through Cashrewards due to the Champagne exclusion.
Great buying.

There was a similar deal 2 months ago about 150 for 12 (12.5 each).
i would have pull the trigger if it's $150 - I missed last deal.
This one still good deal though for small bottle.
sorry you missed it - usually happens only once a year, but has happened twice before

I had some credit to use on cellarone. I noticed the Brookland Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 is actually $10 less per bottle ($40.25) if you buy in the PICK N MIX of 3 bottles. 96pt CM (for WC) Good cellar potention
hope you bought it on the weekend during spend and save, else at least you had credit to use

How do you pick & mix?
via the pick n mix menu?

Are you reselling or something? 🤣

Huge order!

Just drinking - would have bought less but as 6-pack was the available lot size, so be it! Grower brands aside, I have quite a soft spot for Krug and I'm sure 6 bottles in the grand scheme of things will amount to very little of my lifetime consumption 😄😄😄

I wouldn't trust the shopback credit to go through.

The last few times I have lodged a claim they have told me the merchant (Dan Murphy's) has deemed the transaction ineligible. The transaction shows as clicked through on shopback and it s clearly eligible wine on the invoice. Shopback don't provide a reason why they just keep sending me the same list of possible reasons a transaction might not track - none of which are relevant.

Cashrewards seems to work better.

Checked into graysonline for a bit of a peek at what they have. Occasionally there is a bargain but it always puzzles me why people often will pay more on that site than they would if they just walked into a retail store. Maybe the 17.5% buyers premium isn't well understood.

For the auctions, there are regularly good deals, but you have to be very patient.

I've bought 30 cases from Grays in the past 6 weeks.

Best deals have been these:

Under $5 a bottle.

Under $9 a bottle.

Under $8.50 a bottle.

Some of these items are still available. I'd strongly recommend the Tempus Two. They've had the 2013, 2015 and 2016 vintages.

Some people don't live near a retail store. The delivery option, now that's it's with Australia Post (rather than Toll as it was for years), may well be very useful for many.

If you can jump in when stock first gets to Gray's there are sometimes good buys. I've previously grabbed some Madeline's Old Vine, and also some Wildling Signature Reserve for around the $70 mark. Prices doubled within a few weeks. I've been tempted to post bad reviews so it puts off future potential buyers? The $25 regional post and 17.5% buyers fees stings most of the time though.

As far as the higher prices go, I'm wondering if it's the thrill of the win at auction that may drive some.

We should coordinate our bids... don't want to be bidding against each other on Grays.
Tempus Two is a bargain especially considering what they are selling at the cellar door.

They will constantly put them up, so there really is no rush to pay too much for anything on Grays I believe.

Eventually the few bidders will get their dozen, and there will be minimal bids. It's all timing half the time.

Noticed quite a hike in Pirramimma starting bids lately, enough to price me out.
This started a few months ago. It's quite common to see no bids on many items. Pirramimma obviously think their wine is worth more than people are prepared to pay. I had bought quite a lot of their wines via Grays previously, but I've stopped now given the price increase.

I have a friend who used to work in the wine industry. Sometimes they would auction excess stock with Grays. If the bidding was low, they would buy it back themselves so that the label would not be diminshed. In fact, they saw it as a form of advertising if they needed to do this to help preserve the prices of their product. Yes there was a cost to them in doing this, but better than letting it be seen being sold too cheap.

I often purchase from Grays and amongst the rubbish i often find a few gems. I picked up a Heartland Shiraz Cab for under $6pb delivered which i'm very happy with, Angas & Bremer for about the same price. I've also just picked up a case of Velvet & Willow shiraz for under $10pb ($30 at cellar door) which is a really nice drop and scores 4 on Vivino (albeit from a small pool of votes).

Nice! You really need a bit of luck and patience with grays. I got Charles Cimicky Reserve Shiraz 02 for $18 (60 at cellar door), it was a epic wine! Sadly there is no more. I will check out Velvet & Willow shiraz, but last thing I want is to bidding against people here!
