Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Also I am fascinated to know if there is any varietal of wine out there our community isn't big on?

Personally, I don't enjoy Sav Blanc.

Sancerres and Fume Blancs are quite decent to give a go, the Domaine A sav blanc started my jouney in that direction, albeit it is quite pricey.

Basically all the wines you dont really hear about here - White Zinfandel, Moscato, All Italian whites I guess, pinotage, retsina, tempranillo, sparkling red (probably a split down the community on this), Dolcetto, shiraz based rose, pet-nat swill 🤢🤢, just to name a few.

I've had some nice fume Blanc's to be fair. In terms of sav blanc I've only once been impressed. It was from Rippon. Actually tasted more like a Riesling!

Damn these short and sweet Langtons sales. I know they’re always for a few hours, but I seem to be busy when they’re on!!

Third time lucky I got some!

It's definitely the ugly stepchild of the main varietals here in Australia isn't it. I've enjoyed many Sauv Blancs, not just the Frenchies either. Some unwooded such as the Shaw and Smith, or Leeuwin Estate Art Series; wooded such as the Suckfizzle or Te Koko, as well as some blends like the Triolet.

Unfortunately it seems the good ones get expensive quite quickly, for reasons that I can't quite grasp.

If you want expensive, bone dry and elegant try the hans herzog in Marlborough, NZ

50% off Lloyd brothers wine plus free shipping on 12+
Bought their 2015 grenache last time, decent drop for the price on sale

20201126_174344.jpgLoot from $75 mixed case. Probably 20% off already reduced prices on cellardoor.co is my guess. Not disappointed at that price though I'm sure many of these could be picked up at discount elsewhere.
Haven't received $125 mixed box as yet. Anyone else have any success?

Big heavy reds. I'm basically a pariah around these parts
This is the strength of this group. While Shiraz and CS remain most popular there’s plenty of info about for other verities. In fact @qaz idea of subdividing into categories such as Chardonnay or PN makes it easier for members to focus on their favourite grapes (or avoid the ones they don’t like).

Prices are back to usual - $9 wines are now OOS and they've reuploaded their wines at full cost (for what didn't sell out)

For those that took part - enjoy your wine - I look forward to some photos of your hauls!

Edit* Seems like you can still access the wines if you have a direct link. (Peter Drayton Anomaly)

Alternatively change the last 3 digits of this link to find some if you have the time:

546 $9 (was Austin & Co Geelong Pinot)
542 $9 malbec.
511 $9 tempranillo
As requested, Wickad.
Early reports:
1. Austins - thumbs up. But need to like whole bunch characters - cloves, beetroot. Lovely Pinot.
2. Miceli - for all the mixed reviews, it appeals to my dinosaur taste in Chardonnay. Lots of stewed stone fruit and oak.
3. Jellicoe - needs a good sleep. Bought after trying 2010 vintage recently. Potential is obvious though.
4. Kangarilla Rd Sangiovese '16 (not in pic) - surprise package. Simply lovely w Xmas cake on back palate.

Will report once I get to Forest Hill and Merite.

I think I would have been disappointed to get this pack.

For what I could have got, yes, for the actual cost no. Not wines I would actively buy but it's a good time of year to re-gift. Last iteration I got the Chalambar 2017 six pack. Way better outcome that time.

Is this something that happens every week? Is there any pattern to when Langtons puts products on sale like this?
It used to be the first Thursday of every month. Now it appears to be the last Thursday of every month. Sometime between 10am and 1pm. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Close.
It used to be the last Thursday of the month, then it was briefly the first Thursday, currently back to last Thursday. :)

But yes, generally between about 10 am and 1pm.
