Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Many moons ago, when I was in retail liquor, we used a 35-38% margin to arrive at rrp. Someone out there may be able to confirm or correct me, as I suspect this margin is now 100% (probably even more) to enable discount cycles (at a smaller margin) now largely aimed at the e market sector and for those who don't do their homework, buy at the premium price (businesses can't go wrong)
Price increases are often triggered by a supplier cost increase. Most of the time you will find that prices increase across all retailers at the same time

Wine prices have been pretty consistent the past year or 2 from a BWS perspective, aside from the Accolade products. Definitely putting that one down to supplier costs.

don’t some of you guys ever sit and watch a Dans or BWS or FC store and see the continual never ending stream of punters who come and go with trolleys full of plonk almost 100% at shelf price?
Yep and every time it makes me wonder if I’m that mug in other areas.

Thanks to AFF, I’m well aware of good value and various hacks for flights, hotels, credit cards, supermarkets and plonk.

But is there a parallel universe with a forum for home improvement discounts, great deals on insurance, motoring needs, you name it, and I’m missing out?

Next time I leave the pharmac_ and see some bloke watching me with a grin on his face, I’ll assume he’s a guru from the Chemist Warehouse and other medication deals forum.

Don’t confuse apples and oranges - bottle shop purchases for most I would assume weekly, fortnightly or at least monthly if not more regularly.

Insurance usually only annually - we all compare prices then. Home improvements? 5 / 10 yearly? Again we all get quotes. Motoring needs? Vehicle servicing we all know traditionally major car dealerships get up your skirt - we all shop around there and sometimes subconsciously just talking to friends - new vehicles in the new Covid enforced supply chain shortages then forget about negotiating.

But yes your underlying premise is correct - Caveat Emptor from sunup to sundown

Random BWS! I was waiting for tomorrow to see if some wines get further discounted, but I guess this will do

Does anyone rate Wolf Glass Black Label? I found some at $65
It would be $52 after CB.

I found some Fox Creek Reserve for $63 too.

Clearance prices are updated every Thursday morning. Waiting for tomorrow won't achieve a thing.

You must of read my post incorrect, I said "I was waiting for tomorrow", as in I'm already watching some wine.

2016 Cantine San Silvestro Barolo DOCG Patres

Budget Barolo, under $34 in a 6pk. $40 single bottle.

It looks okay, but it's well priced for entry level. Update: Sold out super quick.

FWIW WBBL @ $65 from BWS now my benchmark for all purchases. If you buy 6 you get 10% off - wait for a 10% disc promo and it’s sweeter again - pay with BWS Gift Card at 5% disc and you are securing a high quality wine at a great price.

Best part is over last few years it’s available month after month 👍

Reserve Wines - Bec Hardy Wines

Code for 50% off will be LF50%OFF

I've been given early access - 24 hours before it goes live elsewhere. I asked if I could share here, and received the go ahead.

I grabbed a 6L Magnum for $205, I was told it'll cellar for up to 15 years.
Pertaringa Over the Top Shiraz 2017, I believe has been on sale for $20 previously(One of those hidden label deals). I guess it would be $160 vs $205.

Easy choice for me, I don't own a 6L Magnum and this is a great price.

Enjoy

Done! Great deal. 3L for $97.50 is a steal. Couldn't justify 6L but glad to hear you did!
