Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

If anyone sees it, I’m on the hunt for a decently large bottle of champagne that isn’t too crazily priced. A methuselah or nebudchadnezzar or similar.
Qaz posted a deal I missed previously, a few months back.
Kent Street is my go-to for large format if you don't already check their store.

Looks like a 3L Mumm that's okay priced. They have 10% now and then too. I'm sure there's cheaper elsewhere.

Does anyone have any insider insights into the likelihood of seeing notable cashrewards or shopback offers from the big liquor retailers in the near future? feels like its been a couple of months since we've seen 20% or above from BWS/First Choice/Liquorland pop up. Are those days gone? I really miss paying below cost for beer, and the weather is finally heating up!

BWS had 12% a few weeks ago. I've only seen the larger discounts on specific products at First Choice. Dunno about the future but I'd say the days have gone. 😢 The withdrawal of the larger discounts storewide has changed my spending.

I think this year will see very aggressive markdowns in July/ August when new vintages are released. After all there is a huge glut of excess inventory from 21 and 22 vintages. China still is not buying Aussie plonk.

any thoughts on RSR 2020?
I bought the offer. Full-bodied with nothing subtle to my (unsophisticated) palate. A reasonable quaffer for the price I paid but nowhere near the RRP

besides champagne, chardonnay, pinot noir and grenache, wine tastings and dinners:

due to their 20% off sale, Prince Wine Store have mis-priced some new arrivals - their full undiscounted price is the same as the 20% off sale price of the previous vintage, making them 32%-39% off after double-dipping with the usual 15% off:
  • 2022 In Praise of Shadows Mankai $14.09-$15.67 - GW93, RRP $28
  • 2019 San Filippo Brunello di Montalcino $94.86-$105.40
  • 2023 Murdoch Hill Chardonnay $20.20-$22.44 - last 5 vintages rated MB/GW93-94, PWS offer for previous 2022 (RRP $36):
Murdoch Hill - Reach for the Stars: New-Release Pinot & Chardonnay from an “Ultra-quality Player.” [Mattinson]
  • 2022 Aphelion The Confluence Grenache $25.09-$27.88 - GW94 ($26 @ finewineco)
  • 2023 Cirillo Vincent Grenache $15.91-$17.68
  • 2023 Silent Way Pinot Noir $15.30-$17
  • 2023 Giant Steps Yarra Valley Pinot Noir $27.54-$30.60
they've also just received their first shipment of Vincent Rapet (Pernand-Vergelesses), all 2021 reds except one 2020 white:
  • 2020 Rapet Pernand-Vergelesses Les Combottes Blanc - WA(WK)89 - $88/$84
  • 2020 Rizzi Barbaresco Rizzi $65/$75 - GW93

for those unaware, The Wine Collective added 10,000pts/$20 to accounts last month - before discounts/cashback:
  • 23% off 2020 Chateau d'Yquem 750ml $765 delivered

no idea why, and haven’t tried searching for any other bargains, but Langton’s have these rieslings cheap - try price beating at Dan’s:

  • 2020 Ata Rangi Kotinga Pinot Noir $104 :)
  • 2010 Leoville Poyferre $244 - reviews :)
i'm somewhat surprised/shocked that these both didn't sell out given how cheap/under-priced they are - no longer 20% off, but instead now 15%-23.5% off with code

  • $659 @ Archive Wine Bar (call/email) :)

I should note - your welcome email on signing up will mention the 10% off and will list shipping costs - which are presumably what you'll pay normally. But as Olympicwiz mentions, the welcome code will apply free shipping for the first order despite not explicitly stating so.

I just had a fun time with GWD. They offered a nice Paullets Polish Hill Riesling, along with the claim that HH had placed it top across the Clare and gave it 96pts in RR. It was $173 for a six. I had a $50 voucher (actually, this was the only reason I was looking on GWD) so it was down to close to $20/btl.

It arrives and it's a mix - two of the very nice Polish Hill I was expecting and four of the inferior Clare Valley Riesling. I inquire and get told it's all the winery's fault and it should have all been the worse ones. I point out the website claims which are clearly about the better wine. I then notice the write up on GWD contains some stuff about the better one and some about the worse one... it's a mess.

They offer return and full refund, or a $41 credit. I take the money, as returning is a total palaver. Very tired out now from the squawk even then.

Boomed - thanks. I don’t drink a lot of white wine, but only have a few bottles left and was wondering what was next.

any thoughts on RSR 2020?
I tried it yesterday. Was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Particularly given the price of $13. Certainly better than earlier vintages IMHO. Full bodied with a long finish. The very first RSR I came across that is under a screwcap. I preferred it to Wynns BL 2019 I had on the weekend - purely subjective of course. Was going to buy more in spur of the moment but seemingly there is no shortage of RSR so no rush.

The Chardy appears to be sold out. I was going to grad a dozen as the wife has a few recipes that require Chardy.
