Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Does anyone know what is this? JD

Dear Friends,

Feeding your insatiable demand for quality Pinot Noir keeps me on my toes.

I can source the run-of-the-mill drop, but that's not what you know me for...so the hunt is always on for a top-notch drop at an UNBEATABLE PRICE. Look no further.

Here comes a Single Vineyard, flagship Pinot Noir at a QUARTER OF THE PRICE!

New to JDCellars...Secret Wine # 979.

"It's sweetly fruited with savoury nuances, showing dark berry, dried herb, cured meat, mushroom and warm spice aromas, followed by an elegantly flavoursome palate offering terrific weight and fleshy texture. Wonderfully framed by finely infused tannins, making it delectable and highly enjoyable." 94 Points Anon (...at winery's request)

You know the rules...as always, my Secret Wine's identity won't be revealed until it arrives safely on your doorstep, ready to enjoy. Below are a list of clues to whet your appetite, but that's all I'm allowed to reveal.

To protect the vineyard and the good name they've built, we have a gentleman's agreement to release this quality drop without divulging the name of the wine or vineyard, until it arrives safely at your door, in all its glory. It's a game of trust, between not only the winemaker and myself (that I won't reveal it's origin), but also myself and you... relying on me to always deliver the best VALUE - and with today's deal at A QUARTER OF THE PRICE! My reputation depends on it.

Here we go...

* Single Vineyard South Australian Pinot Noir
* Adelaide Hills (Piccadilly subregion)
* 2023 Vintage
* Handpicked from 20+ yr old vines
* Aged in French oak for 9 months

This is crazy buying at $12!
if one prefers to support Dom directly, then he’s now offering this at a similar price to WineStar – $144/doz, plus $25 flat delivery (WineStar have it free to most, not all, places)

I am hoping its Ashton Hills - i bought 6.
Definitetly not AH, otherwise they will mention JH 5 star. The only giving tasting note is from our famous wine reviewer - SK. And there is no other tasting notes, it must not a famous wine.
  • 2023 Solaris Pinot Noir

Can you share the link? I've just resubscribed but no email yet

Interesting, if it is Solaris. There is no website, nothing online, it seems only to exist as a high RRP but steeply discounted wine sold through online clearance centres.

You can't simply google this "Anon's" tasting notes as they seem to apply a thousand different wines.

Mind you if I asked chatgp to write a tasting note for a 2023 AH pinot it'd probably spit out something very similar...
.... same same could be said for most regions and most mainstream varieties...

It's fairly clear it's a Sam Kim note.
Solaris 23
Pinot Noir 2023
Rating: 94
It's sweetly fruited with savoury nuances, showing dark berry, dried herb, cured meat, mushroom and warm spice aromas, followed by an elegantly flavoursome palate offering terrific weight and fleshy texture. Wonderfully framed by finely infused tannins, making it delectable and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2035. $75.00. Sept 2024.

I bought a subscription to Wine Orbit a few years back, the PayPal renewal failed last October, but I still have access.

Thanks for this. I tried researching the SK website as well. There do not seem to be too many reviews over the last few years. Site seems a bit run down. Is Sam winding back?

Have you paid for a subscription? If not you won't see anything much useful.
It's a pretty basic web site, but his prolific tasting notes appear regularly, thousands of them over the last couple of years.

I haven't paid for a sub but did try some workarounds to locate relevant tasting notes. I acknowledge that this is problematic, but all I wanted was evidence of SK's Piccadilly pinot 2023 TNs. Google and AI were bereft. In any event, I'm inclined to ignore SK's opinion on anything. I did order a dozen given the price point and I'll let people know what I think once they arrive.

Sam's TN Paywall is pretty tight. There are about 31 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2023 TN, latest December 2024, Piccadilly a selectable option but only two old notes.
Agree re value of SK notes, I only subscribe to be able to find mystery wines that don't resolve via google.

BWS 30% Cashback capped at $25 via SB today from 10am AEST.
Do you know whether the cap is per account or per purchase? Couldnt find anything in the TC's and asking via chat is completely useless

You can only guess based on previous deals. I've personally given up on SB due to poor tracking reputation, poor support, and introduction of subscription model. Long history on OzB of BWS issues. I only use them for gift card deals now. TCB is good, Cashrewards acceptable.

Anyone work out any of the cellardoor mystery packs? I’m struggling
