Good luck not required, I merely ask myself :D

To me, it's not worth taking the risk of fog, u/s aircraft or other reasons - having said that, next week I'm breaking my own rule :o

It's all completely pointless whilst cap'n Bligh is in power anyway ...

Mate, it has nothing to do with the current premier. There is a good reason that it has been tried and rejected a number of times in queensland. It simply does not suit the climate or the vast majority of the state. I really do hope that they trial it again and make all the supporters go live in Cairns for the summer.

The business needs argument is compelling, but then that would mean stuffing up everyone to overcome the relatively small inconvenience of an hour time difference. I've found the 3 hour time difference to WA to be much more of a hassle. Yet no one here has so far demanded that WA adopt DS.

Well, actually, up until the recent three year trial, there were calls from many quarters for DS in WA. Following the trial, the idea was rejected at referendum, and there does not seem to have been the same calls for it to be reinstated. Give it a few years.

It's a similar thing to Qld though - the climate is not really conducive to it in WA, and there is already some inbuilt DS in WA's (or at least Perth's) timezone as is is. Having lived through DS in both Perth and Melbourne in recent years, I think it is something that works much better in Melbourne than it does in Perth.

I understand the issues of business, and the time differences are a bit of a pain, but people vote more on lifestyle considerations.

This is more DS, BS drivel. When has Qlds decision not to want DS ever meant that DS is wrong for others? It hasn't. It's also interesting to note for those who seem so perturbed by the time zone "problem" that Australia lives with at least six different times zones all year round and we seem to manage OK.

Could you please define the 6 different time zones that we have all year round? I can only think of 3 in winter months and 5 in summer months... (Excluding external territories such as Australian Antarctic Territory's)

As for the naz_ comment, I'll treat that with the contempt it deserves as a comparison between genuine atrocities and suffering with something as trivial as this, is very poor form indeed.

You're obviously not farmiliar with Godwins law - Godwin's law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I expect that the naz_ jib was infact a joke.

LHST - Lord Howe Standard Time
NFT - Norfolk Time
EST - Eastern Standard Time
CST - Central Standard Time
WST- Western Standard Time
CXT - Christmas Island Time

I'm in the Hunter and I hate daylight saving ;)
Can't get the kids to go to bed when it starts. I much prefer it to be darker earlier in the evening. Think I must have been a Queenslander in a former life.
Good Lord! What on earth would you have done during June when in the lands North of Hadrian's Wall ?

Given that this was a circular argument I felt it best to exit in a fairly contemptible manner ;)

Need to be able to like in the AFF app.

LHST - Lord Howe Standard Time
NFT - Norfolk Time
EST - Eastern Standard Time
CST - Central Standard Time
WST- Western Standard Time
CXT - Christmas Island Time

There is also territory time, which is variable and can be up to 2 hours behind CST.

I see you've left out "Central Western Standard Time" which is actually UTC+8:45... To quote from wikipedia

Residents of towns east of Caiguna on the Eyre Highway (including Eucla, Madura, Mundrabilla and Border Village) in the south-east corner of Western Australia near the South Australian border do not follow official Western Australian time

Also I specified no external territories, Norfolk and Christmas island's are last time I look external territories. In that case you could state that AU actually has upto 10 different timezones that are observed (ignoring unoffical ones such as "Central Western Standard Time") as otherwise you'd also have

Of course from a point of view where the majority of the population is concerned, there are only 3 to 5 timezones.

I did actually say "at least" 6 time zones and you stipulated the "no outer territories" bit, not moi ;)

This thread certainly rates extremely highly on the absolute waffle stakes :!:

This waffle has been the catalyst for two Qld referendums and at least one West Oz referendum and possibly others, so I guess one mans waffle is another mans sensibility.

I'll say it again Godwin's law has been invoked. The yes case has been lost. Please for the love of Brian close the thread IAW Godwin's law.

Did someone say waffles were being served here?

:p

Yes, I do believe straitman has offered to buy us all waffles, I do however expect that the offer doesn't start until they're being served in the QP's...

Yes its all very pointless and unlikely to convert anyone on the other side...

But weighing in from WA, another big fan of DS here, but after the last defeat (and i think its happened several times) i can't see it being trialled again for a bit... I like it coz i loathe mornings and so it does allow a good 3.5 hours of light even after you leave work at 5pm...

Which can be great for golf/tennis etc and also for getting down and sitting on the beach for a few hours and beat the Fremantle Doctor coming and cooling everything down... As it stands with the sun setting at 7.30pm you can leave for the beach at about 4-4.30 and its in the high 30's in the city and by the time you hit the beach its low 30's and falling fast...

Nothing like sitting on a beach in WA with a coldie, few swims and then lay on the towel or chair and watch the sunset over the water... Ahhh, roll on summer...

Its also a royal PITA when the sun is up at 4-4.30am and kids start waking up early and its also now streaming in through the big sliding door/windows in my bedroom making it very hard to sleep till 8.30am!!!! I have even started fishing around for some eye shades from my travels and am starting to suffer some serious sleep deprivation....

How old are you? I figured you were about my age.
I think we are roughly the same. I am not a morning person.

well there is only one reason I fly to Sydney every week. That's because anywhere has a better way of life than the harbour city.
I wish some more people thought like you and moved out of the harbour city so that it is not too congested. ;)

Particularly god's country north of the border.
You mean north of the Victorian border? There is only wilderness north of the New South Wales border.

I mean you could get in a quick 9 holes between 4 am and when you need to be at work at 10am. :p
If I would play golf on a work day I would prefer to play golf after work. I lost count of the number of times I played 18 holes of golf in Sydney after 5:30pm and finished before dark.

More seriously, based on some discussion when you first started up there, I do feel your hanging out in the wrong places. (entirely your choice, I'm not saying you should change) eg the mill ;)
I have tried many places. The story is the same. Most places shut down early in Brisbane not just in Brisbane city.

I have now given up and just stay in my room when I get home after work.

Truth be told, neither am I. Shame I signed up for 10 hour days in my current job. With landing at 8:30 on Monday morning that means a couple of 11 hour days to catch up :(

 I like wilderness. ;)

Clearly, I'm pretty much the same, hotel room for me. Trouble with Brisbane is finding the activities. Different town, different lifestyle makes it hard. Definitely different to Sydney.

Being a QLDer and this old argument gets bought up every year.

IMO i don't care but I don't want our curtains to fade anymore than what they already do and I don't want to have to fill up the pool more than I usually do in summer.
