If you watch the clip it is a narrow body 767-800, clearly a special order:shock:.
I didn't know 767 were manufactured as narrow bodies and that DJ has got their hands on one.

Wait until Xmas and the singing of carols for entertainment on board.

I'd much prefer they just get Santas handing out choccies to the kids like QF do (in the airport)

The last few years at least, there has been a VB "santa" travelling around the network at the xmas season handing out chocolates etc

Also when flying on xmas day, crew have handed out chocolates as well

Saw this recent post on youtube...seriously? Please tell your staff to grow up! If I was on this flight, I would never come back. No big deal I guess, but how many others might do the same.

Cringe! :oops:This is just wrong on so many levels. Eye-candy or not, this kind of behaviour midflight would make me feel very uncomfortable and downright embarrased if there were overseas tourists onboard - which is highly likely seeing as it's a flight to CNS.

It looks as though it's mid flight, no doubt the footy-bogans had been pestering the crew since the real demo to be allowed to show off how intelligent they were to the whole plane.

Sorry, but DJ can make all the changes in the world to Velocity, status match, add a decent J product, ditch baggage check fees, include refreshemnts in the base fare and all the rest of it, but until it shakes this kind of image - including from staff who can sometimes be almost as bad - I'll be spending my money elsewhere.

Thats a shame. I love the laid back, casual atmosphere of DJ. If I wanted a stuffy nana airline I would fly Qantas...!

*waits for flames*

:D

EDIT: Just watched the vid and WOW... why wasn't I on this flight?!

I wonder if it was a 'no touching' sort of thing, like at a strip club ;)

If it was young females performing the media, and people here, would be going crazy with PC rubbish.

Furthermore if it was a QF flight the media would be calling for an investigation into safety standards onboard.

it's called a 757 ;) but unfortunately none flying in Australia. Actually a very efficient aircraft and would have been very well suited to trans-continental, trans-Tasman, Pacific Island and Bali routes if it were acquired when new.

Not quite true, PX run one into Syd and BNE while DHL charter one that operates SYD to AKL every night carrying non self loading freight.

I am clearly confused. I know of 767's and 757's and as far as I am aware DJ does not have any 767's or 757's.

The video clip on youtube is clearly misleading then as the title mentions a Virgin 767-800.

So can anyone confirm if this event actually happened or is it a hoax/publicity stunt?

You need to remember that the video was purportedly produced by footballers. It seems perfectly normal that they would mix up a 6 and 3.

A little birdie told me that it actually did happen,my contact tells me that it was
DJ 1421 on the 22nd of October,I have no way of verifying the details but my contact
has a girlfriend who is a DJ employee so I think there is a reasonable chance that it's accurate.

LOL, or not be able to put the oxygen mask over their mouth AND nose, nor find the extra bits on the life jacket (e.g. to manually inflate them).

Sad thing is, under pressure in a real emergency - how many others would be the same?

I hope the staff involved, particularly the Cabin Manager who allowed this to happen, is politely told that such behaviour is inapppropriate, and that they are perhaps made more aware of the new direction the airline is apparently heading?

I very much want DJ to become a real competitive option to QF for domestic travel. They need to iron out all of the old 'childish' Virgin Blue first. There is no reason that DJ need to become a stuffy nana airline...friendly, professional service with a smile and some personal interaction is in no way 'stuffy' and 'nana' like! But childish carry on on the PA and unprofessional staff behaving like school children doesn't do it for me either.

On cruises the pax normally all go through a drill so they know exactly what to do in an emergency. I understand that air travel is meant to be quicker so this couldn’t regularly happen, but perhaps all pax should have to do a course at least once in their life to get their "wings" to fly.

Of course, everyone would need to work together and develop a standard of lifejacket and such for this to work.

I know its out of the blue but getting back on topic:)

I would fly with Virgin in a heart beat if they did international flights from Perth. I really dont want to fly over the Mel or Syd only to fly back over Per to get to Europe. I prefer to avoid LON as I hate transferring through both LHR and Gatwick (GTW?) although the latter is better for my onward flights to Ireland , so EY are great for that. Its just a shame that it will add about 8hr to my journey.

Until then I have to go with EK to avoid LON or via SIN/HKG to LON and take my chances there.

Perhaps they could launch that LON-PER direct flight they were talking about a few years ago. :lol:LON wouldn't be too bad if it was the only stop.

A decent snack on trans-continental routes would be good as has already been discussed. Not really need on the East Coast IMHO but PER-SYD/MEL/BRS(?) etc and vv I think would be warrented. Its only fair that these fares would be a little higher to account for the additional service. something I would be willing to pay for.

Was just reading a review of a flight on DJ in the trip reports section, and came across this comment...

One thing is that DJ seem to put up (or their pax seemed to like doing this) the armrests, only to tell everyone that these must be lowered before take-off. In the USA, they seem to put them up as well, but seem to have no qualms if they remain up.

On the times Ive flown DJ too I have noticed this and wondered to myself why the armrests are all put up on the turn, only to have the crew walk through and ask everyone to put them down before takeoff? If they were just put down by the crew during the clean, it would be one less thing the crew would have to do during their secure, and I saw some passengers slightly annoyed with being asked to put them down when they never put them up...its the small things! I also think the cabin is presented better when they're down.

Crazydave or other is there a method to this madness?

I actually think it is a good idea. It certainly makes getting into the seats that little bit easier.

The crew have to go along and check the arm rests and seat belts in any case so it really is no harder or easier on them.

I believe the raising of the armrests on the turnarounds was a result of thinking that it could improve the on time performance of the departure, with the theory that people could get into the rows quicker & easier, without holding up other guests.

If a crew member made a request for me to lower it, even i didn't raise it, I dont think is a big deal.

Straitman and Ishkaban got it - it's to make getting into and out of the seats quicker and easier - it definitely helps on time performance. I've never heard anyone complain about it before AirlineGuy's post and suggest he is in the minority.

In fact on most of our aircraft the aisle armrest comes up too - there is a little button underneath the armrest close to the seatback. I alway choose an aisle seat and pop the armrest up at "disarm doors and cross-check" so that I can stand quickly and not be blocked by the person on other side of the aisle. ;)

cheers
